Hello GSER's
I have a problem with my rear brake calliper.
'02 Adventure, 7K miles going into a bend, no back brakes.

Bled the brake line and got a few bubbles. Another 10 miles, brakes go again. Went to BMW dealer, said that I didn't bleed the system correctly. He bled the system, 40 miles later, no brakes.

After closer inspection it seems that the fluid is escaping through the threads where the nipple screws into the steel nut on the calliper!!!! Weird or what?

Questions:
1) Has anybody heard of this?
2) I have acquired a replacement nut and nipple (without buying the entire calliper as the bwm dealer wanted me to!). I need to use locking compound on the external threads on the nut into the calliper, so I'm assuming that I'll have to allow most of the brake fluid drain out....right?

Thanks for any comments
regards:
brakeless....

sounds like the nipple is not seating properly in the caliper.

sealing the threads is not a solution. you need to check it out properly & see why it is not seating correctly.

it's possible you might need to find someone to machine the seat area, otherwise it's a new caliper i'd say.

doing it up REALLY tight might do it, but it's a total bodge & will probably just strip the thread.

disclaimer: i may well be talking bollocks as i've not actually examined an oilhead caliper, but i'm assuming they are not too different to any other. not sure what the mentioned "nut" is.

I don't know how long you usually get, but is the bike not under warranty?

Beat me to it.

02 Adventure, two year warranty, = 04 Doesn't it?

Get it back to the dealer. This is a safety issue. INSIST that they sort it.

.

Had this on my landrover, turned out to be crap on the seat of the nipple, new nipple and a good clean cured it. Had me baffled for a while, but your bike should be under warranty so back to the dealers with it.
