Hi GS ers. I am new today but have had my 1100gs for 12 years.

Have been trying to charge the bty thru the power out socket: no joy.

I wired a normal charger to a plug that fits in to my power socket adaptor. The charger showed that the bty was charging but the power level did not improve after 15 hours.

Any ideas?

Anyone know of a commercial plug that i can attach to my normal charger to the bike's out socket via the crocodile clips? Do I need an Optimate? I wish to avoid the hassle of always taking the seat off. I ride all year but have been snowbound here in Scotland for 5 weeks and I want to keep the baty alive.

Grateful for your considerd opinions.

Both the Optimate and Acumen charger systems have a suitable adaptor that you can buy which works in the bmw/Triumph smaller sockets and in the full size cigar socket types.

Battery shot?:rob

When I first had the problem you describe I took the plastic starter cover off to reveal the 2 pin connector for the socket, it was very green in there :thumb2 worth a clean up :thumb2

.

Check the wiring connection behind the power socket or lift the protective cover and look inside at the terminal . They both corrode badly and fail.

Or plug something into the socket to see if it works (assuming you have anything that is powered from the socket).

Is it possible that you got the polarity wrong when you fitted the plug? I doubt whether your charger would indicate that it was charging if you had, but it might be worth checking.

Will your battery charge by using croc clips straight onto the battery terminals?.
