Just hooking up my optimate for the first time since I got my GS12 last year. The manual says disconnect battery before charging, but I've seen other threads where it has been suggested you can just clip the leads on without disconnecting the battery.

Can anyone enlighten me before I blow up the electrics on my bike?

Ta.

I have mine connected directly to the battery via the provided connector and I just connect it up after every ride. Should be fine. I don't think it works via the power socket though?

I have used my old Optimate charger on my 4yr. old GS, from new, without any problems. The leads are permanently attached to the battery, with the connector tucked under the seat area for easy access and away from water ingress. Simple to fit too, so away you go.

Me too, you shouldn`t have any problems :thumb2

Thanks for that. Since posting the question I have been searching the threads and reading all the discussions, and I realise that this subject has been done to death already.
I think I have found out all I need to know, although bugger me you do get a lot of conflicting opinion on this subject, don't you?

Think I'll stop worrying about batteries and look at some more of Ash's pics of tits and bums on the caption thread - far more entertaining :clap
