hi all

Not very hardcore question I know, but has anyone got any clever ideas how to charge a phone whilst on the bike?

I use my bike a lot for work and need to charge my phone during the day. The bike has the accessory sockets but they are nowhere convenient for plugging a phone charger in and storing the phone. I have a top box and I am looking at how I can get a charging lead into the top box from the rear accessories socket. There are the two small storage compartments in the front of the fairing and the phone does fit in there, but how do I get the cable in there without destroying the seal on the door and/or breaking the cable.

Anyone got any ideas?

Buy a Din to cig lighter adapter, buy a car charging lead. Job done.

Don't bother trying to use a power supply from the bike to the device.......they come loose, trail wires all over the place and you'll forget to connect them...It ain't worth the hassle :)

Do an Ebay/Amazon search for USB power supply:

Hundreds to chose from, and most now come with a multi connector that wil charge iGadgets, mini and micro USB etc etc.

Charge it up in a hotel overnight, then connect to your phone in your yank bag if necessary......you can also use them in a tent or anywhere else....

From a tenner upwards, no dangly wires, no messing about, job done :)

If you go up to the 40-50 quid area, you'll even get them with enough power (and appropriate connections) to jump start a bike/car, just in case

These will charge pretty much anything, AND jump the bike if it needs it

Thanks for all your replies. I like the idea of the waterproof plug into the top box, and I think that the USB adapters form motorworks could work well. BMW reckon they have some purpose made USB adapters coming available next week. I will have a look and report back.
