Any ideas?

It's 8.4v from the power adapter though camcorder says it's 7.4v. Maybes it has a regulator inside it. Maybes I can try 12v...

Better not. Any other ideas?

I can make a regulator with an LM317 chipset but it's not efficient. I'd rather purchase a switching mode power supply (but I can't find any at 8.4v).

I use a Sony DCC-L50 12v charger. Plugs into the 'bikes electrics and powers the Camcorder when in use, or charges it when not in use!

I've run two leads out on the 12v side to power the bullet camera and external microphone..

Works a treat :thumb

I wouldn't reccomed using a linear reg (eg LMxxx), as the camcorder will draw quite a sustained relatively high current if you connect it with a flat battery.

The Sony unit is quite good quality but a total rip-off as you noticed. I worked for them for 6 years and was appalled at the prices they charge for aftermarket accessories.

Which camcorder is it?

HC37. Only £175 which seemed a good deal ... then £60 for a power adapter. What the hell...

They didn't even supply one DV tape with it. No USB/firewire lead either. Unimpressed.

used a small inverter (around £15) and the mains charger in Europe last year for 3 weeks with my Sony, No problems at all, plus i could use it for mobile phones etc:)
