I am just about to register a French r60/7 after some extensive refurbishment.
However the chassis number and the engine numbers are the same. Is this normal ? Bike is as i say originally French -built August 1976 with chassis plate and frame stamped 6000054 and engine number by the dip stick also 6000054.
I am confident that the DVLA will say ....No. What say you.

Most bikes used too have matching numbers, Jap bikes anyway (don't know about nowadays though).
Can't see it being a problem myself.

Hi Chartswood, cant help you on your query ,Im taking a German bike for a mot tomorrow and hopefully hitting the DVLA office next week for registration ,anyway in the leaflet on registering a eu bike it says I must have a customs and exise form are you having to do this .

Thanks for the responses guys.
Bigjets , I have not compleated the customs form sounds a load of old nonsense to me. I am working on the basis that my local office will put me right if Ive not ticked all their boxes.

In case anyone is interested,

To register an eu bike you do have to fill in the customs and excise form that big jets spoke about. My cunning plan of letting DVLA tell me what to do worked out rather well as 48 hours after sending in my paperwork they said no, but sent me the correct form to complete. Its still a load of old nonsence though as the c&e form is primarily geared to new car importers and the payment of VAT, not 30 year old second (?) hand bikes. Still gives somebody a job.:blagblah

Same engine (unless changed) and frame numbers up until 1984. In fact pre 1984 bikes have two engine numbers. :D

Hi again Chartswood ,Ive got the VAT 414 form the guy from customs told me I needed is that the right one I dont think so ,which form is the right one ,Im gonna stand in line at the counter and want to nail it in one go ,Cheers

Hi Big Jets, I have sent all my paperwork back to DVLA now but from memory , yes
414 is the right form.
