CHAT-GPT for translating while travelling

As a tip Chat-GPT 4o is an incredible resource for translating while travelling.

Fire up the app and just say for example “Translate anything you hear in English into French and vice versa”.

Used it this morning for an emergency prescription requirement for one of our group. Works like a dream.
 
If you have an Android phone and use the Translate app, it can also do the for speech - listening & speaking
 
or you can just use google translate app, which you can use for voice for with it in lens mode - point at a menu or a photo of text and it magically translates for you on screen right before your eyes.
 
What is it with English travellers these days going all soft and trying to speak the lingo or translating everything ?

In the good old days we used to just shout louder and louder until the foreign johnnies understood , maybe give them a slap with the big blue passport if they were really hard of understanding
 
The mistake is this.....you know a few words of your chosen Johnny foreigner language and subsequently use them. Johnny Foreigner thinks you’re fully conversant and expresses, in a gattling gun quick fire succession, words of delight which is way beyond one’s pay grade. Fun though :D
 
I stopped on my bike at a campsite in Germany, nobody spoke English
I tried using the google translate app, but the lady who owned the campsite just reeled back each time i shoved the phone in her direction.

She proceeded to write something in German and gave me a piece of paper?
I cant speak German, so why she though i can read German is anyone's guess lol

The app was in Thai? Easy mistake :D

In the last few months I have been using ChatGPT to translate English pages of text into French. It is absolutely brilliant, it does make mistakes but very rarely. I can read French no problem, however writing is a disaster, so this is great.

In India I used it to translate texct into Hindi, had it checked by an Indian friend and he was suitable impressed. It is simple AI.
 
I haven’t really been following all this ChatGPT stuff but this video is interesting, demonstrating how powerful it is becoming. Scroll forward a bit to the demonstrations…. Or…. “Hey ChatGPT, skip a bit brother”…. At about 09:15.
