Cheap accomodation in Wales?

Me and my girl are planning to come to Wales next week. We would like to have a low budget holiday but camping is no option.

The internet shows lots of B&B's, hotels and inn's however they seem a bit pricey. Can any of you inform us about the general price when we leave the internet's middlemen out and make arrangements on the doorsteps?

How easy will it be to find accomodation in Wales next week? Is everything booked solid or is it possible to find something when we arrive somewhere where we would like to stop over?

Any suggestions for breath taking scenery, nice curves and such?
We don't have GPS. Maps, stars, moon, sun and your advice wil do just fine. And yes, we will bring a camera and post some images when we return.

Thanks in advance.

We have 14 days to spend and no travel plan as yet. Suggestions are welcome!

How about Camarthen?

Sell - heap o shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Note 2 me.
Stop midweek drinking and posting same time.

You shouldn't have too much of a problem in finding b&b while you are here. Though you may need a bit of a ride around (Not a bad thing then!). There tends to be a good supply of quality accommodadtion in the Carmarthen/Swansea area most of the time.

Hope you have a great time! :beerjug:

Hmmm, the Dutch and the Scots have something in common :D
330 per week is still a bit steep, we don't want to buy the place ;)
All we do in the accomodation is sleep. Basically we need a bed, a shower and a toilet. Thanks though Cupid. And please do point me in the direction of your sweet roads.

Thanks for all your input so far guys, we are looking forward to our stay. Anyone with more tips?

Thnx,

T

Any more expert opinions? :bash

Hi Tweety

I use this website to find B&B in the UK. The website gives you contact details for each B&B so you negotiate your own price.

I live in Abergavenny in the south east of Wales. The going rate for B&B in this area is from £15 per person although most will be higher now that it is school summer holidays. I would budget on £20 per person and treat it as a bonus if you get somewhere cheaper.

I have plenty of time on my hands until September so email me at wessie at tesco dot net if you would like a guide for the Brecon Beacons area of Wales.

Sorry, forgot to mention prices,

I generally find cheap places in Carmarthen, Swansea area to be about £28 to £40 per night - Sometimes per person, usually per room.

Here's one of my favourite routes
It'l take you through some great roads and scenery, with plenty of stops on the way, including the well known West End cafe in Llandovery

Just a thought, but it may be best to avoid the Menai Bridge area (in North Wales) next week as the Eisteddfod will be held there. Unless you've booked in advance, you will probably be struggling to get any accommodation within say a 20 mins drive of there. Most towns will have a Tourist Information centre and should be able to sort out accommodation. If you're really stuck for good roads, bump this up again, but most of the roads I have personal knowledge of are in South / Mid Wales. If you're travelling in North Wales, there are cracking troads there, but watch out for the speed cameras. :(

My uncle runs a B&B about 5 miles outside Lampeter (01570) 470216. I think the going rate is around £20 p/person. You can try haggling with him - but I warn you now, he's as tight as they come :D but in fairness, he does do a lovely cooked breakfast.

Thanks for all your input!

Any thoughts on staying on a campus?

Kind regards to all.

Tweety, take no notice of the southerners:P , get yourself up through mid wales to the north and Snowdonia.

Get hold of an Independent Hostels Guide....think backpackers but with a different name. These are approx £10 a room for the night and there are doubles . singles, dorms etc and the locations are far better than any BandB. If you cannot see one listed on the web hen get in touch with the Tourist Info people for a list near the routes you decide to take.

Look at all the b roads next to the published route and miss out on all the Power Rangers and their like on those A roads. Much better scenery along those roads for the area shown. Rhos, Pontardawe etc.....bloody boring as hell as roads and nothing to see except houses and the odd new Tescos at Pontardawe. Also the Run up to Brynamman is boring as hell and better going over the Trecastle Mountain Road and then Usk road back on yourself to get to Llandovery etc.
