just knocked up a cheap rack for my X Country, out of Plywood..:D

I wanted something to stop my Waterproof bags from coming into contact with the exhaust, so came up with this idea.
Also drilled hole in the plastic to give access to the frame for front tie down on the left side via a couple of small shackles.

Who says craftmanship is dead...:eek

I don't care what it looks like as long as it works and lasts a trip to Portugal and back. In fact you won't even be able to see it once the luggage is on it.

I won't be keeping it on for normal use.

I fully agree that it looks very naff......:D
But if we all cared what our bikes looked like, most of us wouldn't be ridings BMW's......:D

Would maybe, just a tad, disagree with the last sentence though ;)

No, fair play. I have loved all my beemers but when it comes to looks they're styled by... well... German engineers.
I like the rack. Nothing wrong with expediency.

I have a pair of these going cheap if you want them ;)

Cheers,

if it was made of aluminium and had Touratech stamped on it, everyone would want one....:D

If works as well as it looks like it should I may look for a bit of Alumiun Checker Plate when i get back from Portugal....

as you say it was completely made from odds and sods in the garage, so only cost me a bit of time...:thumb2

Nice one, I've used plywood in the past before moving on to a plastic chopping board cut to shape:augie:thumb

We are going at the end of May, getting the Plymouth Ferry to Santander, riding across the Picos to Portugal and then following the fairly well publicised route of trails down through Portugal and then turning back when we feel that we can't go any further and returning either on a similar route or minor roads if need be back to Santander for the Ferry back.

Cheers,

I did have the cardboard template i'd made up against a plastic chopping board, but my missus caught me, so I had to look for something else....:augie
