cheap top box?.. RYDE etc?... anyone tried one?

At that price I would be a tad worried about the fixture plate, and the box coming off, but who knows................
 
I had a similar priced box on my 1100s for several years, didn't have it on all the time and put a 12mm nut and bolt through the box and plate for peace of mind when it was fitted.

yes.. thats the idea.. bolt it on ... got to be okay for mid week, putting the works kit in etc?... reading what people say, there are quite thick and solid.. seal may not be the best when its used in heavy rain.. but those are car days anyway ;)

I can but 10 before catching up with the BMW price.. and thats without the mount :)

I used one of these as a temporary measure while working on fitting a lowered exhaust and modified Shad pannier mounts to my bike last year. It was absolutely fine and only cost £20! It was eventually replaced with a Shad SH58X topbox which is adjustable to three different capacities and which I highly recommend.

I purchased a cheap one for commuting two years ago. The locking mechanism was poor and often I did not lock it properly. Lost a pair of work trousers and a damaged a jacket liner. From then on secured it with a bungee.

The £25 top box really cost me £90 - better decision sometimes is to spend a little more...
 
Maybe.. the shad one looks good, but could get a BM one for that... may give one a try.. see what its like... bin it if its rubbish... £20 down?... or car boot... could come out on top :)
 
The lock is cheap the attachment is secure. It’s a cheap topbox. I’ve used them for camping on my various bikes. It does the job. Unless your a fashion victim. It’s good at keeping your stuff dry with a bit of security. Look at the locking mechanism it’s cheap but if you make sure it’s engaged properly it’s good enough. Buy a genuine bmw one and it’s more expensive heavier looses internal space because of the construction. Yer pays yer money. JJH
 
TBH.. its probably as much as a back rest as well... with the Wife on the back, she finds it hard to stop herself going backward on acceleration.. so need one of a reasonable size...
Put the seat in the front position and that works better, but we / she is used to sports bikes and you sit on them a bit more like a race horse... so you can brace acceleration with your legs... On the GS her legs are more square so she just tips up :)

Can you just get a back rest... and a role bag may be better :)
