Wanted Cheap Tow Car - £2500

There must be quite a few Volvo V70s diesel with a tow-bar out there, ideally 2005-2007 although earlier also good.
I've also been looking for a cheap car with a tow bar for a couple of months now. Upped the budget to £5K but not having much luck yet. Volvo v70 is on my list too but mileages tend to be very high, many getting towards 300k

Can confirm. The 325/525 is basically a detuned version of the same engine, but less desirable, so easier to find around that budget. Plenty of pups out there but can also find good buys, especially if you can find another 500-1000.
Good shout and the lower power variants do not have the troublesome Swirlflaps 👍

Toad Jnr is on the look out for something to tow a caravan with, but with a limited budget.

Just a single axle jobbie, nothing heavy.

Maybe a passat or akin??

Anything about with a tow bar?
I’ve just put an advert up for my sister’s ford modeo estate. It’s a good very cheap car but is petrol and doesn’t have a tow hook fitted. I’m guessing a petrol tow car is OK but you’d have to use the gears more as it would have the low down torque of a diesel.

It's what gearboxes are for. Gearboxes are torque converters.

Diesel engines, whilst offering good low range torque, have a smaller rev range than a similarly sized petrol engine.

I have a 2005 Suzuki Grand Vitara ( 2 litre petrol with towbar ) which I’ve had for several years.Mileage 93 Kish. Nothing wrong with it to the best of my knowledge just fancied a change.
If I remember correctly Car and Classic suggested value £2.7K upwards. Bury St Edmunds.

Honda CRV 2.2 diesel. 78k miles. Manual. 2000kg tow limit. (towbar already fitted...bearing in mind towbarsa can be £££s to be fitted) Car is nowt to do with me....just a quick autotrader search of sub £2.5k crs with sub 100k miles.

Or this Ford estate thing, 4 litre engine, plenty of oompphh...and loads of space for bags, flowers or coffins...

2.5k will buy you a 2.0 tdci ford mondeo titanium.... 2013 hatchback is ideal.
You may even be able to purchase the 2.2tdci
Great shout - Mondeos of that era are superb cars. The one thing to avoid, like the plague, is an auto box on the 2.0 - the dreaded Powershift. It's a case of when, not if, it will implode. The 2.2s are fine - they have an Aisin auto box that is very reliable.
