Tow car wanted will consider any option and prepared to travel if need be. Anything from £0 to £10k, petrol or diesel

Colin, are you experienced in towing, or new to it?

Have you done any homework, eg know the MTPLM figure of the caravan and know the 85% rule rough calculation for a suitable towing vehicle?

If not, perhaps go on the caravan club website and have a bit of a read.

As an example, my Bailey Unicorn Vigo has an MTPLM of 1550Kg, my tow car (Peugeot 3008GT 180Bhp Auto) is capable of towing roughly1850Kg as I recall.

Another consideration is caravan hitch nose weight and tow vehicle max allowable front and rear axle weights.

And, if the calculations work out, please know that I am currently advertising on this forum, a 2011 VW Tiguan 2.0l tsi, 4WD, 5dr DSG, 28,000 Miles. Immaculate.
Braked towing weight: 2200kg.
UN-Braked towing weight: 750kg.
Removable/detachable towbar.

Here's a thing: apparently if you don't order a Skoda with tow bar prep from the factory, the plate which states the permissable towing weights won't have any weights on it. Which means you can't legally add a tow bar later and tow with it.

Also worthy of note for towing, a 4WD is worth having over 2WD due to grip/traction, especially on wet grass.

It’s personal choice but our car is an auto and tows much more smoothly than my VW T5.1 T32 6-speed manual with the same power. Given the choice, I like to tow with an auto.

Good all-season tyres like Michelin crossclimate or similar are also worth fitting.

Here's the factory plate from mmy 2011 Tuguan, just for reference...

Looks to me as though1160kg is the approved towing weight. You (or others) may know better than myself...

Consider buying a lwb small van (transit custom etc) to tow the caravan. Motorbike in the back of the van & house on the back.

2230kg is the max weight for the car, solo
4430kg is the max train weight, so you can tow up to 2200kg if your licence permits you to drive over 3500kg. But don't forget the 85% rule, it's not law but sound advice
1. 1160kg = max weight on the cars front axle
2. 1130kg = max weight on the cars rear axle
And yes, those axle weights do add to more than 2230kg, you're not expected to balance it 50/50!

Thanks for that detailed breakdown... Very useful indeed.

Cheers,
