PC World appear to have the cheapest Garmin Quest yet at £390 inc VAT

The description doesn't mention City Select and Europe being unlocked but as far as I can tell Garmin only ship two versions of this, either Americas or European, both with fully unlocked CS.

How long before that RAM mount is available? :D

Drat.

Hmm wow...that looks like a bargain. Just when i was settling for the 2610, and saving up my pennies for christmass.

Arh.. humbugs..

Has any one bought one of these yet?

touratech are on the ball!

I have been talking to young neil from TT - apparently Germany are starting to ship mounts for the Quest. Will try and get a picture and price for you soon.

If you are thinking of getting one - give them a ring.

New to GPS - Had a Garmin V but couldn't see it - too small and B & W Display

What is the difference between the Quest and the 2610 - or is it better to buy a SPlll will all the bits - secondhand for about the same price as the Quest at PC World

Simple answers please!!!

Cheers

Bill the quest is probably no good for you as the screen is physicaly the same size as the V. Yes its better quality but not BIG enough. Looks like the 2610 for you is the best bet. (or dare I say the 276C)

Got myself a Quest a few weeks ago. Paid £430 on Tottenham Court Road, so dealers are discounting them fast...

Im new to GPS, so my first impressions really are First Impressions.

1. The Quest is tiny, as in mobile phone size. So is the screen - useful and conveys the information necessary, but difficult to read street names etc (at arms length anyway).

2. Fairly quick to calculate/re-calculate. I dont have anything to compare against, but it averages between 5 - 10 seconds to recalculate a root which is ok for me.

3. Good battery life, 20 hours is a lot of riding. But no motorcycle power/audio lead or mount yet.

4. As above, no voice on motorcycle as there is no lead yet. Though you can customise the provided car audio/power lead if you so wish.

5. Waterproof and has survived two drops (so far) from my clumsy, butter fingers.

6. Easy to use hand held. Slips into a shirt pocket.

7. General observation from a GPS virgin - journeys are now much less stressful. Just concentrate on the driving and keep an occasional eye on the countdown timer on the GPS.

8. Fast transfer of mapping data via USB 2.

All in all, I think the Quest is a useful tool for those wanting a portable GPS solution which can fulfill a number of roles.

HTH, Mike

Is the Garmin Quest definitely waterproof

The PC World website doesn't confirm this. Does anyone know for sure ?

Yes, it's waterproof, a quick read on Garmin's site will confirm this - but you're going to have to find the site yourself ;) :P

I believe its rated to the 30 min in a bucket of water test ( but not the battery compartment as is the gps v

Saw these guys at the Southampton boat show last week:
http://www.awtshop.co.uk/acatalog/Garmin_Quest.html

They seemed OK, quite helpful, went for a 2610 from Aspid in the end so cannot comment further but the price is pretty good, it was £390 at the show.

I asked Aspid if they could price match but they said that they could not.

It's odd that some dealers are selling some Garmin units cheaply but not other units. I cannot see it as a 'loss leader' as you are not exactly going to shop there every week. Perhaps it's Garmin dumping lots of stock out there for the Quests launch. Who knows?

Oh well going to have to bite the bullet and buy a quest then, price seems to good to be true

ps How many posts do you have to post to be promoted to senior member? and do they have to be sensible?

I ordered a Quest from Expansys on 14th Sept & have had to wait for new stock to arrive. The price, inc delivery, was £391 & they will honour that price for me if I wait, but they won't get anymore in until 1st Oct at the earliest.

Seeing this post, I went to see how much PC World were going to charge for delivery (£4.99) but a quick google search of promotion codes brought up one for a £25 discount for orders over £250 (TDSAVE25) & a £40 discount for orders over £400 (TDSAVE40). Putting this into the box at the checkout brought the price down to £369.98 all in........ :D

Guess who's cancelling Expansys tomorrow......

quest

Thanks Paul,
You helped make my mind up, also had a quick chat with Migsel earlier and he seems quite impressed with the quest package for the price, so placed my order useing your pro-mo code, now next question is which mount ? any thoughts?
Gary:D ;)

Which maps are included?

Hi All

I've also been looking at the Quest on the PC World web site. When you look at the key features it says 'UK Maps, motorways and exits included' and when you look at the specification:-

Compatible with: MapSource products incl BlueChart & City Select

Country Maps included: Uk maps, motorways and exits

So does this mean that this is the unit with the Atlantic basemap only and not the City Select Europe maps?

Worth checking before ordering I recon??

I also spotted this but as far as I can tell Garmin only ship two versions of the Quest, either Americas or European, both with fully unlocked City Select.

In any case, PC World's terms and condtions state that you can return any goods within 14 days for a full refund as long as they remain in 'as new' condition. It should be immediately obvious whether the software and unlock codes are included without opening too much.

I've placed my order and followed up with the promo code but if I don't get the promo discount I'll order another and return the first. There's a lot to be said for the distance selling laws :)
