cheers ian

Cheapest way to turn it off is find a friend with a GS 911 who either doesn't mind "loosing" a VIN on his Enthusiast version, or someone who has a Pro version (which doesn't loose VINs).

Or as has been said, buy the service off Ebay and ride your bike to them.

The only alternative I'm aware of is the Motoscan, and it has to be the Professional or Ultimate version (up to £40 ish) Ontop of that you need the OBD connector. Some work, some don't! Motoscan recomment the OBDLink LX or MX (Not cheap).

Motoscan and the GS911 have different functionality, so one will do some things, the other won't, and it's not even consistent with models for any of the two makes. Beware. (I have both for that very reason).

If you plan to keep the bikes a while, and do some DIY servicing/repairs, a GS-911 is a good buy (I have one).
They (Hexinnovate) had a Black Friday event last year and had great deals.
Occasionally they come up 2nd hand on here, and providing there's at least 2 "lives" left, could be a great deal for you.
The GS-911 is a fab tool. As well as switching out the Service light, I also used it to code new TPMS sensors, and general "health check".

Don’t forget to post both bikes registrations on here so future potential buyers know about your sketchy service practices and can offer you a suitable (cheapest) low ball offer.
There is at least one professional mechanic on this site who will only clear the service warning if he services the bike in question.
I have a gs911 and service mine and three mates bikes on the same basis - clear the warning only if serviced.
Don’t be so tight.

Agreed. If home-serviced, I would expect to see receipts for materials (oils, filters, brake fluid) and maybe even piccies (ideally including the lube of the FD)... Worth keeping such stuff just in case :)
I also have a mate who is a mechanic so he can help with the harder stuff if needed. Just to be sure

Don't forget to make sweeping generalisations about what the bloke is or isn't going to do.

I have a replacement on the way, you're welcome to use it, but with petrol costs etc, Id just go with the ebay jobbies.

25 quid to reset it if thats the way you want to go :okay

I am one of those Ebay jobbies...
But you are a bit far from me...

(\who mentioned sketchy service practices .if anything all my bikes are over serviced ,i just choose to do them myself with the correct parts and fluids.as allot of folk do.the 1250 gs is still under a warrantee so that will be done at llodys of carlise ,but the r nine t i have bought it with the service light on, light now taken off. ,i have done and a full service .even though it only has 2000 miles on the clock.i only want the tool for taking the light out in the future ,as i dont like asking folk to do it for me.
no dodgy stuff going on here ,as i said bikes are over serviced

I have an OBDLink LX which cost around £80 including cable, plus around £22 for Motoscan Professional for my phone

Used to reset for 2 services so far, worked well on my GSLC. Also reset a mates F800 for him.

Be aware not compatible with "iPhone"

If you plan to do your own servicing and repairs you may well eventually need diagnostic kit anyway.
But,if you get someone to clear the service reminder you can enter a custom date and mileage ,so say next service due 2025 and 50 k miles.

Plus 1 for Motorscan

You only need to service your bike one time and you break even. When you sell the bike you can recoup 70% of said purchase price.

Also the bluetooth obd reader can be used in quite a few cars...

Love mine. brilliant all round

Most people will service their bike correctly. It is not that difficult, although i let the dealer do valve clearances.
Change all fluids myself - so in effect more often than BMW recommend. What i do not agree is servicing based on time unless it is over 2 years.
