i dont think i can resist it any longer,

the 2610 motorcycle bundle from gpsw.

im emigrating to oz in january, so its the wrong basemap, but buying a 2610 here in the uk and the city navigator australia in oz will be half the cost of the oz price.

i was gonna go for the tomtom rider but couldnt find anyhere on the net where i could buy the australia maps for it!

Buy the WorldMap and load it as well as the CN Aus and voila, a base map that's almost as good as a 2610 supplied in Australia

bugger, ive found oz maps for the tomtom rider available in the uk at £150,

so i could buy the tt rider for £240inc p&p + oz map for £390.

but is the more ud to date rider with its sirfIII chipset and internal battery worth the extra money over the 2610

Also what needs to be considered is if or when the TTR will be replaced?

And will they have solved the issues they encountered with the first one?

And I so prefer the TTR operating system!!!!

That will be 2 of us with the money burning a hole!!!

i've just replied to you on advrider.

depends where youre going to live.

you really don't need all the bells and whistles of a fully functional super duper GPS over here.

my sp3 is slow as an old slow thing and 99% of the time its perfectly adequate - and I'm in the busiest most congested city they have here - Sydney.

the roads are bigger, theres less of them and theres no short cuts outside the city.
you only really need a gps for Sydney or Melbourne - anything else you'll remember in 10 mins

ive been trying to find out about getting bike gear over there, have posted on various forums, but not a lot of info from any of them.

im gonna get a cbr1100xx when i get there, looks like i will buy all the panniers and stuff here, after you said its hard getting stuff over there.

starting of in brisbane and hopefully gonna do a tour to perth visit friends in sydney and melbourne on the way, then back to brissy before starting work and getting a house.

i suppose even a quest1 would probably do, as the garmin australia map is only around 130mb, so it would easily fit in the quest1 memory, its just the tt rider is cheaper and is more upto date.

look at the quest1 a year or 2 ago, they got ridiculously cheap and then the prices went right back up!

dont wanna miss the boat this time.

im starting to discount the 2610, as i think having no battery is gonna be a prob for me, it was just seeing them at under 200quid made me want it

I would seriously discount the TTR also - read the thread about the problems and TT's response.

When I read people defending the TTR, I can't help wondering if they don't want to admit that they have bought the inferior item

The Quest 1 is good at the right price, but I believe the Quest 2 is a leap forward.

if im in the middle of nowhere and decide i need a petrol station, hotel, campsite of something, is the quest gonna get me there easily?

im sure i read something about poi on the quest, but cant find it now. cant remember if you have to load them in yourself or they automatically go in with the maps you insatll. on my current pda gps i can find anything i want in the vicinity of where i am from hospitals to hotels to national parks, tourist attractions.

ive gone and done it!

i went for the 2610 bike bundle from GPSW £240

if its good enough for ewan and charlies RTW trip, its good enough for me

i thought long and hard about it, read loads of reviews and all the stuff on here. thanks for all the comments too.

i thought i needed an internal battery, but after re-evaluating,

i realised the 3 month USA tour i just did with my pda gps, not once did i actually use it on foot, so dont really need battery backup.

my current gps is 12 channel and i had no major probs with loosing satellites apart from in the horrendous new york city, i'll never go there again
so i can get away without having the new sirfIII chipset.

i also planned each section of my route across the USA on my laptop at night in the hotel room, which helps you see the bigger picture of where you are actually going.

so all i need now is worldmap and city navigator australia which i'll buy in oz and a external antenna from maplin £10
