I have just bought a 1200GS from a dealer and will be picking it up from them on Monday. It’s a pre-owned 2006 GS with 2000 miles on the clock, ABS, Heated Grips, Panniers. I need some advise or a checklist on what to get from or ask the dealer on collection.

Any help would be great.

Two problems on the GS1200 are the ring antenae (immobiliser) and the fuel pump controller both have been subject to upgraded parts in the last year and stop the bike when defective.

Look on the top/side of the ignition barrel and there is a small black box with a part number stamped on it, it should end with the numbers '247' if its the latest version of the ring antenae.

The FPC is located under the front of the tank on the left side and needs a couple of screws removing to pull the top circular cover off where its housed. The latest and most reliable one to date is black whereas the previous ones have been blue.

Also make sure you get 2 proper ignition keys as well as the plastic one as part of your deal as a lot of dealers only supply 1 nowadays.

Finally check the front engine casing for corrosion/pitting around the plastic cover, if its corroding get the dealer to replace it as its a common warranty claim.

Enjoy your new bike, they're :thumb2
