Hello all
Quick Question
I know the above area very well but know nothing regarding the camping situation!
Does anyone have any info on good campsites?
ALSO
Been a while since I drove there and now the hovercraft has gone, what is the fastest route into france for those of us not so lucky to live near the tunnel?

Setting off AM on a thursday in a couple of weeks. :beerjug:

I always travel with P&O Dover to Calais and the trip takes 1 1/2hrs. How fast do you want to cross? The tunnel takes about 45mins but I far prefer the ferry, far cheaper and I'm never in so much of a hurry that 30mins difference doesn't matter.

There's a municipal campsite next to the old German AA battery above the Marina at St Malo. Stayed there a few times, always been quiet, great views over St Malo and the old German fort is interesting to wander around.

Last week we stayed at camping Le Puit, about 20km SW of Caen, run by an Irish couple, 12 euro per night, barn to park the bikes, our pitch was behind the barn and you wouldn't know you were in a campsite, more like tame wild camping!

If you're in the area make sure you ride the D999 both ways as well:thumby:

If you want to go to Normandy have a look at Brittany fast ferries to Cherbourg, 3 hours and you're in the heart of great riding country. We got a blinding deal, £68 return, whilst the ride from Calais is easily achievable I know what roads I'd rather be riding!

I hitch hiked around there when I was 15 yrs old during the summer hols.....there was no Google then .......

Impossible.

There was no world before the Internet (or UKGSer, in particular). Nobody went anywhere and still wouldn't today, without being fact-upped. The more personal the facting-up, the better. Until the reader is so fact-upped that they go.... It's called 'Fact-upped Adventure Motorcycling'... And it's not for the faint hearted.

About 30 mins from St Malo port.

The site is quiet, peaceful and clean. It about 100m from the river Rance which is a lovely walk into Dinan town. Ive used it as a start and finish for all my France trips when using the ferry to St Malo.

We can thumbs up this one, although we've not personally used it we have friends who have a mobile home there for holidays, so we've visited on a few occassions. If you need a restaurant, there's a good one on site (we have tried that!!). They speak English as well, so no problems if your French isn't too good. Dinan is well worth a visit.
