Just doing a 36K service on the 08' GSA and managed to chew up the FD filler bolt :blast Is there any difference in filling up from the speed sensor hole instead? Thanks in advance.

Scrap that Capt Mannering....I've turned it into a Hex having lightly tapped one in.

Nope I have a 2005 1200 and do it from there every time
Cheers

Buy a new one & it shouldn't be too tight anyhow, I find cheap tools or not fully pushed home are often the cause of rounding off :)

Or using a tool size one too small and dead easy to do with a Torx.

In the case of later model final drives, its better to drain the oil the old way. Tipping the drive back recirculates grease in the trunnion needle rollers. These move only a few degrees so need that regular swing back and forth. Just dropping the oil is quicker but those expensive bearings wont get their grease moved about and will fail faster.

I'll do that anyway as I like to grease the splines. It was me being lazy and not swapping a long reach torx drive for a short one that caused the problem, that and the bolt was quite corroded.

I simply dropped oil and refilled as I'm sure the bike had always had. But when I took off the FD to get bearings changed the Trunnion had worn its rollers flat. Grease was all pushed away. It went back with grease fully packed. They don't move enough to churn the grease.
