Getting back the original subject 4 months later, apart from the differences described above, the most obvious difference is that you get updates for the Chigee via Wi-Fi but the Carpuride has a weary process of contacting them, getting a link by email and then putting the update onto an SD card and then loading it onto the unit. Their reply to my query regarding trying to establish if my unit had the latest software/firmware version was not................ reassuring:
Dear customer,
Thank you for contacting us. Is there a technical problem with the device? If not, we do not recommend updating the software.
Because the update process is complicated, this may cause the device to have uncontrollable problems such as black screen, freezes, etc. during the upgrade process due to improper operation.
Best wishes,
Carpuride Team
Another difference is that you can power the Chigee from the USB C port underneath using a cable. The Carpuride cannot be powered except on the bike. I found it useful to power the Chigee this way to learn the menus and operation of the unit etc. in the comfort of my own home and not in my cold, damp garage.
I like both units, not withstanding the differences and will be testing them out on this years tours to decide which one to keep. My 'trusty' ConnectedRide Navigator will be in my back pocket as a back up. I have a feeling the Chigee's screen will be too small for my old eyes.
