chinese front fender extender

Yes but does it really cost £130 to design and manufacture a piece of plastic for the rear shock guard?

We pay over the odds for most motorcycle accessories.

It doesn't because the chancellor will have taken his cut in import duties and VAT , the importer will have taken his cut and the reseller will be operating on a decent profit margin so MM will after all the costs of design and setting up a production run probably be getting £30 or £40 for each unit.

It may not even be a copy. In my experience, some Chinese component manufacturers will fulfill an order of x no. of units and then produce an additional batch and sell them through other channels.

We've been offered our own components from other suppliers and they're clearly from the original manufacturer as the dies cost £300,000 to produce in China (and we own the dies)

Tempted but just wondering if these are really that effective at protecting the front of the bike?

Let's put this in perspective - if you designed something novel and spent loads of your own money developing the design and then even more producing it, how would you feel if someone stole your patented design and then put you out of business ? Some people seem to expect MAM to do all the hard work and then trade at a loss so they can have a product on the cheap.

im not sure who done the hard work here i would say the chinese do cos they produce there idea

simple answer to that and that is produce it here then you control your own destiny, so ultimately you had a produced in china to get maximum profit from the purchaser, its a catch 22

If you're not taking the piss, then you really need to get a grip on reality!

Maybe ask him who is going to design/develop the next improvement once Machine Art Moto have gone to the wall because of cheap Chinese rip offs. The rip offs only exist because someone else has already invested and developed a product, without that they'll be nothing to rip off and save us masses of wonga.......

That's easy to answer as long as someone takes there idea to China to be made it will get copied

A little story here that appertains to this.
Years ago I had a contract with a large plastics manufacturer who made dashboards and bumpers for the rover group.
One year whilst doing their annual service of their Air compressor I noticed a gap the size of a house on the shop floor.
Turns out they had sold one of their molding machines to a company in India.
Later that day I was told they were struggling because they were being undercut by an Indian company.
Yes it was the same one.

Anyway on to the machine art fender.
It's a real catch 22.
Companies invest massive amounts of money in design and development then to be even half competitive they have to produce in the far east.
As a result the far east just take the easy route and copy the product and under cut the original guy.

Who is to blame for this?
US the consumers that's who.
We all want better workers rights, we all want higher wages but we also want to pay the bare minimum for anything we buy.

Companies invest massive amounts of money in design and development then to be even half competitive they have to produce in the far east.

That was my point. If the companies cannot get a return on their investment they'll cease to invest and we, the consumer will lose the innovation these designers bring to our world.

Well something has to give and I know what I would do and that's sell them cheaper here sell more , the Chinese ain't stupid they can see what there retailing for here that probably costs a £1 to produce ,also the import tax would be less because there retail value would be less

The Chinese may not be stupid, but can they design what we want, or merely copy. If it's the latter, then who is going to invest in the design etc.

Keep buying your cheap knock off's and feel better for saving a few quid at the expense of the designer.

One more question. Do you buy counterfeit software? Same thing.

I give up. You win
You can't argue with someone who clearly hasn't got a clue. My problem with the likes of fujack is that they are happy for us to effectively subsidise them. Perhaps he should change his moniker to I'mallrightjackandbollockstotherestofyou.

Would you buy crash protection (X Heads, Lever guards etc) from the same source? Or would your thinking be cheap cheerful knock offs don't equate to protection?

Oh and mr bean did you buy one of them cheap copy camera mounts for your mate hahaha hypocrisy at its best !!
Your quote was "worth a punt at that price" bellend ! So cheap is ok when it suits you ...
