I have fitted some Chinese Rox Type Risers from Aliexpress.

The Ad states they are for the R1250GS, however they are 1 1/4 inches (31.75mm) diameter not 32mm. Never the less they do clamp up solidly and the quality is good.

Clamping up solidly is the least one should expect from handlebar mounts and I know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder… In my opinion they are fugly :barf

So you've spent how much on your bike ! And then you fit a cheap possibly substandard item to a safety critical area ( holding the handle bars to the steering mechanism) of your expensive bike. If it was me I'd stump up for a reconised brand that would give me confidence when I'm riding my bike

What he said. There are plenty of non safety critical items Chinese bits I would fit to my bike, but anything that has the potential for failing and causing my demise gets the best I can buy.

I would be interested to know how you tightened the lower clamp. The correct method is close the gap at the front then tighten the rear bolt to leave a gap. The risers however obstruct the rear bolt and therefore you cannot follow this method.
I have just fitted ROX pivot risers which are very good quality.

On a slightly different, but related topic I bought a pair of up and back chinese risers off ebay. They came without any instructions but the main issue with them was that although they looked very similar to the Wunderlich ones there were some subtle differences that were not apparent until they were compared side by side. These were the rear threads in particular on the risers themselves were not as long as the Wunderlich ones, nor were the bolts supplied with them. The gap at the rear between the clamps and the risers once the front bolts were torqued down was wider then the Wunderlich ones too. The net result was that there was hardly any thread being used on the back set to clamp the bars to the risers, to the extent that once I torqued those down one of the treads actually stripped. So the cheap tat was taken off and I bought the Wunderlich ones and it was only when I got those and compared them that the potential safety issues became apparent because of their poor design.

The thought of what could have happened had those bolts stripped the thread while I was riding doesn't bear thinking about. The old addage buy cheap buy twice really did apply here for me. If it helps on the Wunderlich up and back risers I bought after the offset between the front and rear parts of the riser where the bars sit is 3mm and the rear bolt is 35mm long from under the head to the end of the thread

Wunderlich risers are on the left

I would be happy with them, but I am not a snob that needs a makers name decorating every part of my bike. Most of the expensive stuff around Europe is made in China anyway.

Nothing to do with being a snob! Who in their right mind fits a cheap and likely inferior quality item such as this? Goes without saying if they fail the circumstances could be fatal. No idea what these particular items cost but the Rox or any other reputable make can be bought for not much more and come with piece of mind.

Exactly !

Some very odd people on here . Happy to fork out £20k for an awesome steed but won’t spend an extra £60 on genuine parts …..

Too true

Probably not forking out £20,000 though….just renting it on a PCP at £200/month

So saving money by purchasing cheap tat from China is all about minimising their outlay

Problem with buying any Chinese copy is the potential variability in quality and materials used , I have no doubt that much of the 'stuff' out there comes from the same factories as the genuine stuff and is made on a 'one for them, one for us to sell out of the backdoor ' basis.

However , with me it is now more of a ethical issue about buying Chinese stuff in that you do not know where it comes from and their labour practices plus IF a failure occurs or it turns out to be utter non fitting tat try getting recompense

Another good point
I won’t buy from there anymore for the same points

Not me then. Never bought a bike since my first new BMW in 1977 without having the cash to pay for it.

Fitted loads of Chinky stuff with no problem.

Guess where those expensive Iphones are made. :blast

My tupence worth!

I purchased similar (Chinese) risers awhile ago for my GSA and used them touring Europe with no problem. I also purchased a set for my CRF250 Rally. I was doing a bit of green laning on the CRF when I had a slow speed off. My rear wheel dropped into a rut and I had to lay the bike down onto the grass embankment whilst I did my best at "best mans falls" HA. I went to pick the bike up by the bars only to notice that the risers had completely sheared in two. The bike had hardly any impact.

Hence my urgency to replace them on both my CRF and GSA. I dare to think what would of happened up in the Alps if the bike had been dropped!

Moral of the story. "BUY SHITE YOU BUY TWICE":beerjug:

So much hatred from so many people with the exception of Bob T (thanks Bob). I put this post up to inform others of my findings regarding these cheap risers and that is all. Is it any wonder other bikers don't acknowledge BMW owners!

Where's the hatred in my thread? I mearly shared my experience in the hope that someone else might avoid the potential catastrophe that could have happened to me. For the record I do have some Chinese stuff on my GS as IMO some of the accessories being sold by the recognised brands just takes the piss on price, but it's all non safety related and mainly bits of plastic

You have to be a special person riding an expensive BMW that you have bought on HP, to be so superior as to tell others where they should buy their stuff.
Would be nice if others did not spend their time trying to lord it over others.
I have a very nice aliexpress rear wheel hugger on my bike, has worked fine for 10,000 kms now. I also have a less than one year old S1000XR in the garage, completely paid for on purchase.

I'll share my experience too. My mate died on his bike so others should not ride them. Sound similar?

Mate, if you want to fit cheap Chinese bits to your handle bars, then fill your boots. I think folk were mostly offering advice rather than 'hatred' whatever that means in this context. Oh, and I paid cash for my new GSA, not HP!
