Choosing luggage for the new 1200GSA

ARD Cases

I'm off to see Roger aka Redcap tomorrow morning for a set of case for my 1150 GS, and the price quoted was £485
This is for a pair of powdercoated cases, frames and locking hasps plus cups of tea as we fit them.:D

Best of luck
Neil

I have the metal BMW boxes( made by Touratech) and they are as wide as the handle bars. A friend has the Vario on his GSA and the ability to collapse the side boxes may be more to your benefit. Another positive is they are cheaper. Another consideration is that with BM fitted luggage it is a single key for boxes and ignition. But take a test ride with luggage on a see how it feels and then make your mind up.

Finally got around to taking a few pics of my new ARDCases as painstakingly fitted by Roger at the end of March to my 1200GSA with the BM racks

Those that can't get enough pictures of aluminium boxes can look here:

Sorry it's taken me a while Roger.

I've tried to take pictures which accurately show the width of each pannier with respect to the bar ends. This was something I worried needlessly about before buying the ARDCases.

Cheers

Richard

I bet you it hasn't.

You bet, cos I'm going to put my two penneth worth in now :augie

As stated before, with the BMW Ali luggage if the bars squeeze through so will the panniers.

However, if you're only riding 1 up I reckon you could just about get away with a top box and tank bag (providing you haven't got cases of make up etc ;)), or if that's not quite enough room then stick some soft luggage on top of the top box.

I've got the BMW ali panniers and top box, and as yet haven't used the panniers, and probably will only use them once/year. I got the job lot from the start so I could pay them on finance cos they aren't cheap

Stick the soft luggage on the passenger seat. you'll have more than enough capacity:clap

on my 2nd gsa now, first one had ali boxes which were ok,bit difficult to get up in the loft when i wasnt using them and they have no handles,(but u can buy seperatley)they mark easily..decided on the varios this time, have handles and easy to throw in the loft, its all personal choice really....:D

What a bizarre, way to chose the luggage carrying capicity of your bike.
Buy bike - fit panniers - leave them there until you sell bike, that way the size of the loft is never a problem.

Not really. You have to be able to live with your purchase. My bike store is also a workshop. Unfortunately I can't use it as a workshop if the panniers are on the bike - it just takes up too much space.

And, as others have said, I will only use the panniers for the odd long duration/distance trip where the top box and tank bag are insufficient.

:blast No wonder the lads in the airheads and other sub sections take the p*ss out of us 1200 riders !! Come on guys - stop giving them material to work with...

I agree with Bowser 100%
