well despite having a great affection for the touring capabilities of my 1200 which ive not had long, i have decided to get the bike i should have got and bought an 2010 F800GS 30 years anniversary with lots of goodies on. with increasing aspirations for incorporating off roading into our foreign travel, i feel ive now got the right tools for the job. picking up tomorrow if I get away from work on time.

Went the R1200GS to F800GS route myself - and don't regret it at all, in fact I should have done it earlier, enjoy!

wow no one seems to want to insure the 30years model. cant believe it. a few stickers difference. the lowest is quote ive had is much higher than my r1200.

Welcome!

At the risk of starting an insurance thread - i've just renewed with eBike who do online only. May be worth a shot.

Best,

S

its all fallen through. nobody will insure the 30 years. absolutly gutted. the dealer is fine to give me my deposit back. the lowest quote was 200 quid more than my r1200. a normal f800 is a 200 quid refund

No difference at all with my 1200GSA 30'th anniversary model insured through Carol Nash:eek:, cant see why an 800gs should be treated any differently.

Maybe a member in the insurance trade may be able to enlighten us all?

absolutely shocked. i did check with my insurance company the day before with the VRN of another 30 years 800gs and they said it was all fine. today when i came to change it, they are saying that the previous days quote was for a normal 800gs. phoned up BMW Motorrad customer service and al they would say is that its a higher insurance group. i did get a quote from other companies but it wasnt worth changing. phoned the dealer to apologise etc.. they are understanding. looking at a couple of "normal" 800s now so might get something wrapped up tomorrow hopefully.

Are you asking for pillion cover?

A lot of companies are now refusing policy if you require pillion cover. I thought it was just for "mental" models ie. R1's , Blades etc., but last year I got refused for a Varadero 1000 by Aviva. Just had a brilliant renewal quote for FJR from Aviva when I declined pillion cover ( wife can no longer climb on due to hip problems)

nope no pillion cover.

I must say it seems odd - my 61 reg F800GS insurance (bike was 3 months old) was sightly more expensive due to it being worth more than the 1200 and changing mid insurance term, and getting stung for the administration fee (Carol Nash) - it has all the extras that the 30 year has and more, its just not the same colour. I expect to get a lower quote this year.

its ever so strange isnt it. bmw are claiming its a higher insurance group. for gods sake its worth less than my r1200 and is on paper, less powerful. the insurance company is claiming its becoming a collectors item.

When I got mine I just told them it was an F 800 and gave them the registration number, they gave me a quote and I got it sorted.
It was more than the XL650 Transalp but as it is three times the price not excessively so.
I insure with Carol Nash.

I just renewed with eBike, the first time I've ever just renewed a policy - I had a quick scoot round online but couldn't beat their price -£204 fully comp for my F800. That sounds ridiculous that a few decals and a different seat could bump a policy up, gutted for you mate.
