thanks chaps. hadnt had time for a good run apart from 130 miles back from dealer. not as planted on the road as the GS but by god its so much lighter and more fun. love it to bits.

Nice bike. Congratulations on seeing the light. So many don't 
I switched from an '04 1150GSA to the 800. Less comfortable, less planted and less happy at doing 90 on motorways. Quel surprise !
But so much lighter, more economic and better at doing what i do most the other 52 weeks of the year and can still do what the 1150 did. (2-up and motorway touring. I hate the latter anyways).
Less planted and twitchier on the throttle ? Damn right. Who wants to ride a docile shire horse when you can ride an eventer ? !

Congratulations, I did the same 2 months ago...
As much as the R12GSA is a great bike, it's not as fun as the F8GS, but as Tim said the seat lacks (sucks) .. started by getting an TT, but will shortly get Rayz do his magic on my stock seat.
It seams that not living in the UK makes things cheaper, I save ~200€ a year on my insurance by getting the F8GS which also made me smile.
