Afternoon all!
We are looking to set up a Christmas do in December this year.

Date is Wednesday 18th December.

In order to try and book something we do need an idea of numbers. Not wanting to rush but places / options are already in hot demand so numbers and commitments will be required especially if we want to have something a bit more substantial than a beer in the local boozer. Eating normally requires reservations and a deposit for this time of the year. Exception of course being Brick Lane where they'll take us whatever...... ;) ;) ;)

Appreciate if anyone interested could get back to me….. here on the thread….. end of the month

cheers!

I have started a fresh thread.

I have edited Grant’s post to request replies via this thread.

I am in the Town of Ramsgate pub. We can, if we agree on a date, have say 10 to 12 to 14 to 16 for a Christmas meal.

I have attached the menu. £44.95 per head, which is not unreasonable for central London in December. OK, it’s not the Savoy but it ain’t Savoy prices either and anyway, the Savoy is fully booked!

£10 per head deposit, which is not unreasonable.

We’d have to pre-select our choices from the menu in advance, again not unreasonable.

Drink would be on top.

As with the meal at Il Bordello, I am happy to put up the deposit, subject to repayment ASAP thereafter. As with the October dinner, the deposit would be non-refundable.

Any other suggestions, sing-up.

Maybe rather than give options on dates we just go for the 18th as fixed. A bit closer to Christmas as well?
I love the ToR but not been impressed with its food. Good beer though. Believe I'm not the only one......
If its to be the ToR the of course I'll join but it would not be my first choice for food that is.....

Gents, I'd be most reluctant to pay for food at Town of Ramsgate, based on previous experience.
Happy with either date - and a Christmas Fayre food selection is not a necessity for me.
Thanks...
Paul

I have an alternative idea.....
Christmas dinner at the ''Fried & Grilled'' outside Shadwell station for a fiver then a walk down to the ToR for a load of beers...
:ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Sorry, I'll get me coat......

Easy solution number 16….

Find us an alternative venue, please.

I did Richard. The option I had initially was the Gun in Canary Wharf which I think after preliminary feedback in our group app was deemed to be a bit expensive due to the minimum spend.
Finding something is always going to be difficult at this time of year and booking & deposit will be a requirement. If budget is going to be an issue and food quality, my suggestion as always is The Standard Balti House in Brick Lane. I know the manager and can easily ensure we have enough places on the day but not sure how many want a Christmas Curry….

I know and The Gun received the thumbs’ down, apparently.

The ToR was just an alternative suggestion.

I’ll amend the date in the opening post to be 18 December.

Why not suggest a budget for food (I'll start with £50) and we can then all look for / suggest alternatives?
Most places will demand a deposit / minimum spend at that time of year but the earlier we can book, the better chance of securing something?
Il Bordello / The Gun, Spitalfields / Ranfield's Brasserie, Coggeshall (:) )?

£50 sounds fine to me. Plus beer probably puts you around the £70 mark I guess. Not cheap.....
My original proposal was the Gun Canary Wharf. Private upstairs function room but the minimum spend was £1200.
Max Pax was 16.
It is expensive and with the minimum we really would need the 16 to agree and show up.....
Feedback was realistic especially based on the minimum spend so we have ruled it out however if the food guideline is £50 plus drinks you get pretty close to the £75.
I appreciate its a fair bit of dosh but the location and private room is quite a nice thought.

link to see the private room is here
Link to the pub itself is here

I'll throw it out there as my suggestion - post #9...... my bit done......
I have now offered 2 alternatives. The Gun, Brick Lane.....
over to the next player....

18 December date works for me

Hi guys - fabulous initiative.

Unfortunately I'll be out of the country at a conference on the 18th.

However... had I been around, my suggestion would have been the Argyll Arms.

Why?

It could not possibly be more central (close to Oxford Street tube).

Despite being central, it's not touristy. Downstairs is a proper London boozer (etched glass partitions, high tobacco-stained ceilings...) and on the first floor is a restaurant that serve fabulous food, esp their flagship pies. They also do a Christmas menu. https://www.nicholsonspubs.co.uk/restaurants/london/theargyllarmsoxfordcircuslondon/foodmenu#/

It's near the Palladium, so much of their memorabilia is signed photos of actors/actresses - on the 18th you'd probably be able to buy roasted chestnuts somewhere close by, too.

Oh, decent Nicholson's ale, too.
