Christmas ride out!

All my online forecasts say dry but cold.

I'll post late on Boxing day as to the latest.

Snow or ice = no ride. :(

Ride-out latest

Ok chaps and chapesses.

The forecast is: Very cold (-temps overnight) but getting up to 2-4*C by lunchtime, possibly damp with snow showers developing on the coast later in the afternoon.

As most of us will have been couped up for a few days I'm sure like me you still want to get out on the bike, so the ride will go ahead and all being well we should avoid the snow showers as we'll be heading inland just after lunch.

The Dalby Forest drive isn't a main road but should be gritted and has a very good surface. It is limited to 30/40mph anyway so shoould be alright. It does have a few very tight corners with awkward camber so some might rather not do it if the roads are at all slippy.

We'll take the ride easy and ride safely. For those not wanting to do the Dalby Forest road you can go straight on from Thorton-le-dale to Scarborough and meet us at South Bay in the Motorcycle parking zone near the fair. If you think this might be you please see me at Thirsk so I know what to expect.

So for those of you brave enough to ride tomorrow I look forward to seeing you at the various meeting places - for those too deciding to keep there slippers on I understand and look forwartd to seeing you on a summer ride-out.

For those meeting us in Thirsk we'll meet on the main car park where the toliets are as there are no wardens working in Thirsk tomorrow and it allows more space than the dedicated motorcycle area.

We'll be leaving Harewood at 9.00am prompt and Thirsk at 10.00am so don't be late and if you think you might be call me on my mobile (PM me for number).

Andy

Remember to wrap-up warm and ride carefully.

My drive and road have snow on

I've had confirmation that at least 3 other chaps are still coming including the guy from Oxfors so the ride is on but hook or by crook! So for those still brave enough - see you later!!!!! :thumb

Well a big thanks to everyone that turned up and a welldone to everyone for keeping their bike the right way up.

The ride went to plan with 11 bikes in total. The roads were mostly ice and snow free with the exeption of a few slippy bits here and there.

We went to look at the Dalby Forest Drive but it was compacted ice and snow and was not a good idea so we headed to Scarbourgh on the A170 instead.

We had sun and snow showers a long the way but it was a good ride if a little slow.

It was good to see so many new faces and a good variety of bikes.

The turnout included:
Me: 1200GS
Dad: 1150GS
Daz: 1100GS
Richie: SV650s
Lee: 650GS
Chris: 650GS DAkar
Richard: Fazer 600
Richard: Africa Twin
Bob: K1200RS
Jon: 1150 ADV
Shotrock: Funduro.

Enjoy the pics - more action ones to follow:

The Dalby Forest didn't look a good idea...

So we all turned around and headed for Scarborough by the main road.

Amazing stuff: Carcher - 4 hours ride to the start of the run......... and presumably 4 hours back after the ride.....That is a bl**dy long day in this weather and as a former 650 owner I'm impressed.
Actually I'm amazed that anyone went out....

Hope you all got home safely.

Yep Andy a great day out and enjoyable from the start! NOT doing the Dalby run was a good call, thanks for that, but what happened to those Mars bars :spitfire !!?? perhaps next year we may get an ice free run.
