Christmas work parties?

Does everyone at work have a doo afore christmas ,or is it a thing of the past what with money being a bit tighter.A few folk i know have to pay for it themselves if they want to attend.
If they suggested that at my work Naebody would go
We are having a change of venue this year its usually at Dunkeld house hotel,but is in blairgowrie this time at the Royal ,i think? A meeting first then food and drinks afore a wander round the pubs ,should be good ,I only see some of the folk at this doo so its usually good craic.

We used to have several do's to accomodate all the different departments.
This year we have got a telephone box booked.

I find them awful because I don't get to relax, as the boss, you are constantly being watched, and I suspect they like me to show face then bugger off which suits me, that way then they can go mental.....

The 2nd in command of our district is absoloutely great crack once he's a drink in,both him and his wife are bikers and don't give a feck,just get hammered like most of us .But i know what you mean if you want to keep an air of unasuming authority about your persona you would'nt want to stagger about or visit church grounds aka KILLIN

Had our last night
Went to greyhound racing. Work paid , drinks were free and they even gave us £20 each to bet with.
I came home £38 up

I used to take all the staff out for a Christmas lunch, paid for all the food and the first few drinks. Now I just give everyone a cash bonus if we've made a profit in the year.

I went on my Christmas do last weekend in Edinburgh. The company put on a dinner dance with a free bar and a nights accomodation as everyone lives all over the place. Normally they paid 2 nights accomodations so people could meke a weekend of it as it costs them alot to travel to these places.

The office party used to be fantastic from 12am till whenever. Coaches to a hotel (or more recently the exhibition centre) then a fully organised party with free bar. Over the years they have started later and later and got smaller and smaller. This year it starts at 5pm and you get 2 drinks vouchers... For a company that made £28 Billion profit last year and have already met there targets for 2010 I recon they are being a bit stingy and alot of folk will opt out and have their own. I know it sounds as though we are very lucky anyway (which we are) but its the reason for scaling it down when the bosses expenses run into hundreds of thousands it just feels wrong.

Anyway to get to the point I love em and can't wait to here the gossip and scandal that inevitably happens, especially if it involves me

But they are struggling this year with profits down by a half... and it all goes to the USA

We used to get £20 a head, handed out at the Xmas do...most often it didn't cover the cost of the do and we'd have to put more in ourselves.
The staff I'm on now covers a large geographical area so it's difficult to get eveyone together with the £20 per head budget, so last year the gaffer just handed out £20 to everyone.
He got bollocked for it, as the money was suppossed to be for "Team Events".

So this year no £20 and no party.

We used to get a bonus of £50, but last year and again this year a £5000 donation has been made to the local hospice.

The Christmas do is free for all the office staff with a free bar for the whole night. I haven't gone for a few years, but am going this year. Should be good craic.

We used to have a big do for the whole building (approx 400) where they would book a posh hotel and all food/drink etc. would be paid for by the company along with subsidised room rates etc.

Even though the company is doing better than ever over the last few years this has dropped to £25 per head and parties to be arranged yourself for your team.

Though this only applies to us mere workers - the Directors etc. still spend a bl**dy fortune on their parties !!

one of my bosses a few years back was a Hong Kong homosexual that would throw abandon to the wind in the face of half a glass of red.....the thought still chills me and encourages me to be sober at work.....

Managed to get some work covering staff sickness in my Local nursery so got invited to the works night out this coming Saturday. Looking forward to it and should be a good laugh as I will be the only guy going.

Looks like I might get some maternity cover work in February back in the Additional Support Needs school where I was working in earlier this year. Just finished a 4 day TCI (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention) training course with them, but just missed their work night out.

Hopefully 2010 will be a better year than 2009 was for me Still believe in fate though
