Plastics are very special, there are different kinds of plastics suitable and unsuitable for plating and each kind has a different preparation process before chroming. There are three basic ways of chrome plating plastics. First method is done by etching the parts with strong chromic acid, following with electroless copper plating, a conventional plating process (Copper/Nickel/Chrome) would be applied after this stage. Second method is called electroforming which consist of a conductive paint and electroless Tin or copper plating, after this stage again conventional plating should be applied. Third method is based on electroless coating , in this method a layer of reflective material (Nickel/Silver) with the close reflective characteristics of Chrome substitute the conventional electro plating process,
