I wanted to be able to charge my iPhone and DSLR battery (and perhaps other stuff) on my bike, but didn't want a cigarette converter and cigarette to USB dangling all over the place.

Either way I've posted my solution over on my personal blog, it all fits inside a handle bar bag.

You want shooting for connecting wires as badly as that :rob Apart from that it's a neat mod.

I know it's not the best wiring job, but it's secure, insulated etc... if I had a soldering iron and a load of heat shrink I'd have gone to town on it.

Either way, worked like a dream on my way home yesterday.

Neat solution (apart from the skanky connections) :thumb

I bought a bunch of waterproof bayonet connectors and something similar and have a flying lead which sits coiled up under the seat, behind the tank when unused. I poke it up and into my tankbag when required and attach whichever end I want to the bayonet (I made up a few 'ends' including USB and lighter socket etc).

I also ran permanent power to my little topbox using the bulkhead version of the connector:

All switched via an ignition switched relay so I don't end up leaving things connected and flatten my battery :blast

How did you reduce the voltage for usb?

I 're-purposed' a cheap USB lighter adapter ;) . It just had a little pcb with a switchmode powersupply and a USB socket in it - I fitted these into a little plastic housing with a short lead terminating in one of the bayonet connectors.
