City Navigator Europe 9 NT update seems to have been released according to my MyGarmin account. Just clicked on the 'Map Updates" link and there it is, release date of 1st September and Ship date of 12 Dec (today).

No sign of the plain City Nav Europe 9 though :(

Here's a snippet of an email from Garmin customer services:

PLEASE BE AWARE: the non-NT update (part# 010-10432-04), for units such as the SPIII, GPS V, etc, is now delayed to later in December and because of the Christmas and New Year holidays.

Just have to wait a few weeks longer...

Dont know why really, as the data is the same, its just the way its stored on your unit :nenau

Is the NT v9 the right update for the Quest 2?
Yes it is. The 'Request Update' feature on MyGarmin will ask you for the registration code from the yellow/orange slip that came in the box anyway, this will identify the model as part of the process.

Just registered my 2720 (was waiting for the update) and ordered my disc set. Told me it'll be here in 7-10 days. That'll be January then!

I am trying to update from V8 to V9 for my 2820 but for some reason it will only offer the update for my old Quest 2!! Although the 2820 unit is registered and I can see it in my Garmin for some reason it will not trigger an update for that model.... any thoughts?

what's the difference in the two?
NT (New Technology ISTR) wont work on older models (2610, Quest etc.) as, presumably, they don't have the processing grunt to decompress on the fly (NT data is stored compressed) whilst also doing the other required GPS stuff. I assume a firmware update would make use of NT data on the older units but would be unusable in the real world. Might be where the Quest2 falls down :nenau

Just had a call for a friend with a new 2820, he’s just rung Garmin UK asking about v9 updated disk’s. Unfortunately none are available just yet.

But when I enter the code for my Quest 2 on Garmin's site, I get a message telling me no update is available.

:nenau The Quest 2 uses City Nav NT so I don't see why you can't :nenau

Maybe an email to Customer Support is in order.

I have a 2820 - can I not just update to V9 online?
The mapping data you'd need to download is large, around 2GB, hence they don't offer a download version. Also they do maintain a modicum of distribution control by mailing out DVDs. You need to request a DVD which Garmin will send out free. When you come to install/unlock it there may be a fee payable depending on when you registered your City Nav v8.
