Spotted on Zumoforum........ City Navigator Europe NTU 2014.40 available for download 30 January 2014. :type

Bloody hell. I have only just got 2014.30 onto nav IV, Nuvi 3490 and base camp!!!!

Thanks iand46 :beerjug:

Had a look on 'My Garmin'... but no mention of an update..

MyGarmin doesn't seem to mention versions any more. Fired up Garmin Express which I finally though about installing last week (having used Map Updater until now) and it's saying that 2014.40 is now ready for download. Just as well I didn't get around to doing the update on my Nuvi and Zumo last weekend.

The Garmin Express experience should be interesting. I updated my TomTom a couple of weeks ago using TomTom Home and, aside from taking a while, went quite smoothly. The comparison between the two will tell how right or wrong Garmin have got it. Of course TomTom Home doesn't do anything but update the GPS whereas GE has to, if required, change the mapping on the PC as well.

Which the honest punters, you may call us mugs, are paying for

If you can't really bear to pay for Garmin mapping updates why not use OpenStreetMap data :nenau

I have both, the openstreetmap ones have more detail and less errors! Both are far superior to Google maps.

My mistake it was available since the 18th jan, not the 25th. I use both, I can easily pay for it I just choose not to and here its perfectly legal to download.

I turned to downloads because garmin have decided to make the process a PITA, with the download I can click download and have it up and running on the GPS in easily under 15 minutes. Try that using the garmin interface.

Garmin express is absolute crap,in fact the whole Garmin update process is abismal. Spent a whole day trying to update with express, ended up using Map updater as per iand46 advice on the Zumo forum.

I couldn't find out how to download to both gps and Mac in Garmin Express. I ended up downloading the latest version of Map install and doing it through that.
I have been using Garmin for years and I couldn't believe that their software could get any worse yet they never fail, aim low and always fail to deliver.

In the latest version of Express you click on the advanced button & choose Device / Mac or both.
Well silly me, Garmin express was an out of date version. Updated it and it seems to be doing thing now. Fingers crossed.

I have all of Europe loaded in my 660. * GB card installed.

When I run Garmin Express it wants to load NW Europe Partial Region. I cant see an option to change to full Europe. Is it possible?
Thanks
Lloyd.

It should ask if you want to send maps to sd card because the file is it too large for the device, this video should help...........http://software.garmin.com/en-GB/express.html

After successfully updating my maps on my desktop PC & Zumo, I then connected the Zumo to my netbook to update the maps on that, but after several attempts Garmin express keeps crashing with the error message "Garmin elevated install has encountered a problem" However after googling the problem I have managed to download & install Garmin map updater to work around it

Back to mapupdater.

It does seem that Garmin Express is, like BaseCamp, more friendly to Mac users than PC's.

The answer seems to be:

Use the old Garmin map downloader / installer if you have a PC (it works fine on mine)

Use Express, if you have a Mac (it works fine on mine, now I have the uptodate version)
