City Navigator Europe v7

I too would be interested to know if there is considerably more detail on V7 - especially in Spain & France. I'm going there this summer, and had thought it probably wasn't worth spending circa £100 on the upgrade, but maybe it is??

Charles

trying to remember

I can't remember exactly how it worked, but I think that:
I loaded the CN7 cd's and the CN7 setup program ran. This asked me if I wanted to pay for the unlock, and I said yes. The setup program then just did it all for me. Didn't even have to enter the code myself. It got emailed later for my records. All this was before even connecting to the GPS itself.

So...it wasn't obvious that I could look at CN7 before paying. I don't THINK you can.

For me, one of few failings of the whole GPS thing is poor map info. So £90 to reduce major frustration and getting lost in foreign parts seems worth it.

PS Katiana: are you PanEuropean reincarnated ?
:) If so, welcome back !

You need to unlock CNE v7 before you can look at the details on the PC

Suck it up, you can afford it !

I suppose we could rely on Mr Gasmans generosity, and just ask nicely if he could copy and paste screen shots from both V6 and V7. ;) We should be able to tell within seconds whether it's worth doing.

Or somebody who has already unlocked it could lend you their unlock code.....

You would not be able to load it to your unit but you could compare the detail on your PC.

D'oh ! Sorry, I've uninstalled CN6. Freed up over 1 GB of space. I'm a bit scared to reload it in case it interferes with CN7..

Did you buy a full version of V7 rather than the FOC update discs...........?

V7 update needs V6 installed in order to work properly.......

Here's a couple of shots comparing CN v6 with CN v7. But remember, the differences will not just be roads on the ground - although there are several - not just the M6 Toll Road - that appear in this shot. There will be updates to road attributes, points of interest etc etc. In the 2nd picture below, the BMW factory called BMW Hams Hall appears - pure coincidence!

Thanks Greg. :thumb Having seen this, read your comments about POI's etc and the other threads on Version 7, I think it's worth me getting it. Just out of curiosity, does anyone know how often the updates are released ?

For future use though, it's probably worth making a mental note to check when the updates are due out if you are tempted to buy or upgrade a system, as this may help you decide when to go ahead. Eg: Can you imagine how miffed you'd be if you had bought and registered a system in December 04, when you could have got the latest version for nothing, just by waiting a few days/ weeks.

I suppose we all live and learn, and reckon by the time I'm 350 yrs old - I'll be a feckin genius. :D :D

I bought just the update. After it was installed, you have the option of using maps from CN6 or CN7 (theres a dropdown box on the toolbar !).
I thought that was a waste of disk space, so I just unstalled CN6 from Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs.

Now I've just got CN7 on, and it works fine.

The v7 upgrade needs v6 so that v7 can be *installed* - it checks for a previous version to see that you qualify for an upgrade rather than having to purchase a full version.

Once v7 is installed, v6 can be uninstalled as above as it is no longer required - unless you have gone through all this and still want to use the old maps!

Andy.

This might sound like a daft question but do you need to load anything onto the gps unit itself after putting the update on your computer?

Cheers

To be strictly accurate, V7 upgrade just needs *a* copy of a previous version of City Navigator installed - I upgraded to V7 from V4...

yes you need to download your (new) selection of maps from your computer to your GPS unit as your unit is currently loaded with the version you originally had on your computer - there has to be a physical transfer/overwrite of the new version to your gps....

just done that after upgrading to v7 on two PCs.

cd1, then cd 2, then cd 3, then back to cd 1 again. what were they thinking

then the same thing twice over for a complete v6 + v7 install on second PC.

then map D/L to my 2610.

where did my day go???

who knows where the time goes?

where did my day go???

well if you want the most detailed maps of Finland and the complete M6 toll road you have to make sacrifices Cookie.

And you have the satisfaction of knowing that now you have the latest version and that it cost you nothing other than a few hours of your life wheras those less fortunate than you have to manage with an inferior V6.5 and everyone will know and will laugh at them ...
