City Navigator Europe V9

Hi - I've just got a Nuvi 360 which works fine & looks great on a RAM mount on the GS - but I'm trying to figure out what i need to do to plan & upload routes from the PC. I think I need to be using the Mapsource application - correct?? Problem is there wasn't a copy of Mapsource supplied - the whole of Eu is preloaded on the 2GB internal memory. I've been to the Garmin site but the upgrades only work if you have the app already....anyone been there done this??
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I'm pretty sure that the Nuvi doesn't do routes, only point A to point B with the option of adding one via point along the way. That's what happened to a guy over on the VFR site but maybe the 360 is a more capable model :nenau The fact that it didn't come with Mapsource in the box suggests that it doesn't do routing :(

Has anyone recieved their disc yet? I ordered mine on the 9th and they said 7-10 days, just wondering if they're in high demand or something.

They're doing it free of charge, and I'd only just registered V8 so with a bit of luck it'll be alright, though I think I was honest and said I bought it in may 06' :blast We'll see.

Garmin seem to be having some distribution issues for the non-NT flavour. There seem to be a handful of people on this site that have received their disc, but the majority seem not to have done yet.

I think, if you search, there are some people sending copies of theirs on to others that are waiting if you're interested in that route?

Nuvi 360 routes

Yes I must admit that was in the back of my mind - but then I read in the handbook that it supports .gpx files - which are the route format i believe. Confusing.....i guess i'll have a look on a wider GPS forum too.

cheers;-)

GPX, in this context, is for way-point uploading only. GPX uploads for routes are a series of way-points anyway, the unit then strings these together and works out the roads to use between each one. Unfortunately the Nuvi can only do three. Similar to SWMBOs Garmin i3.

Got mine but it seems that CN 9.0 will not fit on a 2GB card in my 2610!

Ian

Quick bump - upgrading now to see if it fits

It looks like 2214.4Mb for the whole of Europe when you select all the map tiles .... actual file size for transfer is ..... welll you'll have to wait until it finishes building the maps.

J

Yup!

It doesn't fit - as said elsewhere on this forum .... never mind, 2Gb cards are cheap to put the remainder on....

Now ..... which countries to destroy! :mcgun

Ok, thought I'd post this up on this thread as it's not really lending the DVD out...
I found a torrent link for the non NT version :D it's on www.demonoid.com You need to be a member I'm afraid, and registration's closed at the mo, but it should open up again soon. If you're already a member though you'll be alright. Just click torrents, then search for "city navigator". I can't direct link it for some reason.

I got this and then unlocked it with Garmin, lucky for me I got the unlock code from Garmin for free too! Works fine.

Apologies if it's not allowed, I'd say it's not really piracy if you have to unlock it anyway, but if I'm wrong let me know :)

Got mine today. Unlocked it ok. Now find that my laptop does not find the GPS!!
Same numbers. Only one unit. Tried different cables. No joy. Mildly frustrated:spitfire :spitfire :spitfire :spitfire :spitfire :spitfire :spitfire :spitfire :spitfire :spitfire :spitfire :spitfire :spitfire :spitfire :spitfire :spitfire :spitfire :spitfire :spitfire :spitfire :spitfire :spitfire :spitfire :spitfire :spitfire :spitfire :spitfire :spitfire :spitfire :spitfire :spitfire :spitfire :spitfire :spitfire :spitfire :spitfire
E mail to Garmin will now wait again

I’ve had this problem a couple of times, for me it’s always been issues with the USB drivers.

Try this:
Plug the GPS in to the PC, make sure the GPS is on.

Go to: Control Panel / System / Hardware / Device Manager / and check if the USB drivers are still installed properly for the device, anything not set up properly is easy to see, and there is an option on the devises listed to find / re install drivers, which is the fix!

Give it a try, this fix has always worked for me. I don’t know why the USB drivers drop out from time to time, and some times I even forget the fix like in a hotel in the Pyrenees last June

Good luck!

Great to get the disk at last and, as I've been stuggling with out of date v7 it was nice to have my free upgrade to v9 but why does it have to by so fecking difficult :blast :blast :blast
I like to think I'm reasonably competent as a Chartered Engineer with 10 years in IT/Telecomes but even I had to go through the unlocking process three times befor it all fell into place.
Can't they make it a little more intuitive and easy?
Garmin is to the GPS industry what Linux used to be to the IT industry...bloody top noch kit but I need a degree in Witch Craft to figure it out (which I have by the way :P )

I've spoken to Garmin - unfortunately you're right & worse, there are no plans that the Nuvi range will support routes.........only their "Top end" stuff:-(

Argh, the new mapsource has messed my Europe route up completely! Waypoints are still there alright, but my custom planned roads are just about gone. :blast

Still, at least Budapest looks more like a city than a village now :D
