V7 is only free if you already have V6.

thank FecK for that, i was feeling a bit foolish then!!!! ;) :o

Garmins upgrade policy is - if you buy a version of City Select (or whatever) after a later version has been released, you can get a free upgrade.

For example - you buy a brand new Quest, but in the box is City Select v6. Version 7 was released in January, therefore you are entitled to a free upgrade to the version that was current when you bought the product.

If you buy a GPS kit that doesn't include maps (eg a 60C), obviously you can't get a free upgrade :D

The Quest I bought a few weeks ago had V6. I emailed GARMIN and 5 days later I received V7 free in the post. Top service !

If you buy a GPS packaged with City Select (any version) and you never register it then Garmin will not know when you purchased it and the v7 upgrade will be free.

You can only do this once.

Thanks,

When you get it, ask Santa to buy you a Geko 201 or 301 (201 is 75 quid or less on eBay) for your DR-Z.

Routes and waypoints prepared on MapSource using City Nav/Select can then loaded into your Geko and, although there are no maps, you get a pointy arrow on the approach to and at every turn. I use it across London - works a treat!

See here

Rang Garmin UK yesterday pm to ask for a copy of CS V 7.0 for my new Quest that had come with V 6.0 - the CDs arrived this morning - 16 hours!!!

When I came to set HOME on my Quest my street didn't/doesn't exist. The 45 houses that have been down here since 1999 are figments of my imagination.

I emailed their tech services at Garmin UK and they gave me alink to a site to fil in and see what happens about adding us.

Yes, i've downloaded the latest software, i can't say as i've noticed any differences from the last version, but at least i know i'm up to date :D

There haven't been any problems since i loaded it, if thats what you're concerned about?

go ahead... it's a simple process, i've upgraded software twice now with no ill-effects.

HTH - Stu.

I downloaded and unlocked V7 to my PC this morning. Question is how do I then transfer this updated version to my Quest unit which is running V6?
