I used to own this bike and keep getting a BMW safety recall (4th reminder …) - fork tubes.

I have contacted BMW and tried to redirect.

If you've got the bike or know of it you may want to check the work has been done.
 
As the keeper information comes from DVLA that's a possible concern

Presumably you told BMW that you didn't own the bike when you got their original letter ?
 
It's not taxed, insured or MOT'd.

Suggest it doesn't exist anymore?
 
I believe quite a few are exported to Europe. There is something about the VAT/Tax rate over a certain age which makes importing from UK advantageous. I believe my TB went to Spain or Portugal after I traded it in.
Could be why it has dropped off DVLA radar.

Probably.

My old RT is still showing as un-taxed etc, even though I notified DVLA when I sold it to a Polish chap for export.
 
Most likely exported, my 2011 r1200gsa went that way , my 2014 r1200gsa te also disappeared .....It probably went into the crusher round the back of the factory in Berlin

Nothing to do with tax, that’s pub talk (ie bullshit), it’s all to do with currency exchanges rates and different values of goods in different countries.

There are quite punitive tax regimes in some countries on new imported vehicles, but I believe that in some cases they taper off with age of bike, so used bikes imported from other countries can be attractive.

That’s true, but the vast majority of secondhand bikes that have left our shores have gone to EU countries.

Only reiterating what the Sales Manager at my dealership told me. No reason to disbelieve him.

There isn't necessarily uniform tax regimes across EU countries. We have friends in Holland and they helped us to buy and export a VW T4 van which we had converted to a camper in the UK. This was a long time ago, and may now have changed, but at the time the local taxes in Holland were so high that the manufacturers priced the vehicles lower to reduce the final price. Exporters didn't pay the local taxes, and combined with a favourable exchange rate we saved thousands by doing this.

Try bringing a used bike or car into Ireland. There’s a sliding scale of duties to be be paid up to 30 years old +vat. So much for the single market. JJH

OK, OK. I’m wrong. I was going on my own experience having sold many used bikes to buyers, both trade and private, in many European countries.
I know that tax rates for new vehicles were different in different countries.
