It can get better. My bike was hopeless but now at 6000 miles it changes OK with the clutch below 5000 rpm and is perfect with clutchless changes at any revs but it should be OK using the clutch.
My new GS which I picked up on Saturday has a clunky gearbox worse between 2-3 and 3-4. Selecting 1st also causes quite a jolt to the bike on occasions. The bike has only done 220 miles but I doubt it will get better?
Shame only issue spoiling what is a great bike. Hope we get a cure before too long! I have told the dealer about the problem but as there is no cure yet I have said they can look at it on the 1st service.
Hi all
My bike has been sat at the dealers waiting for the modified pushrod. A part number has now been issued and can be ordered. Hopefully will get bike back this week with problems solved.

Would you be kind enough to find out and post the part number here? And also ask if there are any other improved/superseded parts being offered?
I have had the push rod fitted (I was one of the first to have this mod but don't know the part number.) some improvement but seems to be getting better as the miles go on. Just picked up the bike with a new updated slave cylinder, (though this has been updated for high mileage bikes). Again a little improvement but not been far enough to make a call. They are going to try a new oil from castrol but it is not yet available in bulk.
Yes my clutch was not acceptable at the start but it is improving as mile pile on and with the mods done.
It is still the best bike that I have ever had and it is now only a little more agricultural than my earlier GS. Been riding for nearly 50yrs.
Am I pleased with the bike YES, would I replace it with a new water cooled one if my went astray YES. What more can I say.
Is there a part number for the slave cylinder, by chance?
Good to hear that it is improving!

Sorry, never asked!
SMB
Might be on the work order?
The reason I ask for this one and the pushrod one is because my local dealer is the sort who you really have to beat over the head to get him to consider warranty issues. My thinking is that if I can give him part numbers and say "look, you can go to BMW and request warranty work for these because the customer is having bad shifting" he will be much more likely to do it.

Had 1st service this morning at Lejeune Motosport in Bastogne, Belgium.
Great service from a very knowledgable guy.
Highly recommended, if you happen to be in southern Belgium.
Up to date about all the clutch issues and knew about the new pushrod, mine has it..
Had a software update, replaced the French software, if you know what I mean??
Wow!
I hope all who have problems get sorted asap, but when working right, this bike is mega!

Bob, ref the updated slave cylinder, do you know what the change is? I wonder if this is one with a slightly smaller bore to disengage the clutch further. Do you feel that the clutch lever is a touch heavier? If so, this is likely to be the change.
I'm waiting for a call from Bill who is getting the updated clutch push rod for my bike. He mentioned BMW were considering a different oil but didn't mention the slave cylinder.
