gear change clutch pushrod

Don't think the oil level will help mine as the level isn't above the max mark? Hope I get my clutch rod before too long, fingers crossed that does the trick for mine!

Might be the cure for some bikes especially those that got worse after the 1st service?

hi dave , I am still waiting for my clutch modified pushrod , gearbox is not good at all, supposed to be in the country 10th sept, so hope it cures it , otherwise great bike ,

That's no good 1st service next Monday off to the Black Forest on the 14th. Oh well have to wait until I am back!

It should be ok on open roads riding. my gearbox only bugs me in heavy traffic and slow town riding.
I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a BMW fix its just not going to happen. The design and testing part of the development is complete and BMW are not going to go back to development, they don't have time they are busy knocking them out the LC is a huge sales success.
This is the reality of the BMW K bike gear change system and the 2014 will be the same.
I am a manufacturer myself and i would bet that all the gearbox and clutch components for the 2014 production run are already produced and sitting in stock somewhere.

True - it takes a while for development to work through to production as any change has to be thoroughly tested - doubt that there will be a significant change for at least a couple of years.

Is it? My K1200GT was as clunky as hell, unless you preload the gear lever first. It did not drag or lurch forward when engaging first. Maybe less oil going to it due to the dry sump.

not good

Took it for a spin let it settle and now the oil in the glass is.

Can anyone tell me the NM torque settings for the sump plug ?

Thx D

this is where my oil level shows, its not difficult is it, fill with oil to the circle in the sight glass. its a bit shocking that something as simple as this cant be carried out correctly. :blast

I did my own service :thumb2

If this is a K gearbox I wish you all the best of luck!
I had the misfortune of owning '57 K1200GT which without doubt had the worst gearbox I have ever encountered and which suffered the same symptoms, bang into 1st and clonking all the way through 2-3-4-5. Was my first BMW they never sorted it properly. Their "solution" was a modified clutch pushrod with a different diameter oil way. Stopped clutch screaming when pulling away but not the gear changes.

Thought it had all been sorted with K13?

I had a 6000 mile service. Both the bike oil was dropped to half way in the glass when warm and the reservoir hydraulic fluid dropped.

Gear Change significantly improved at high and low revs. Just about to leave on 2500 mile road trip so will see how it goes.

I bought the Bullshit Brand 5-40 oil, to maintain consistency, at £16 a litre. I now know why BMW insist only Bullshit Brand has to be used......it's £16 a litre!!!
Boom, Boom.

Me too with the 07 K1200GT i used it as a second bike for long runs 25000 miles around Europe. It would have been a perfect ownership experience and fond memories of the bike - except for the gearbox and clutch. Same stuff with BMW You asked them about the issue and they had 'never knew anything about it and no other owners had complained'
I didn't think the K1300 was much of an improvement.
Having said all that i am starting to bond with the LC and i don't want to go back to a TC.
A fast track day on the bike was a big help.
Its a bit like the transition from ZX12R to R1200gs, i blew up a gearbox before i released you just don't ride them like that.
Its a transition from R1200GS to sportsbike although the most comfortable sports bike in the world.

I have just come from 3 K1300R's and their gearboxes although not perfect were better than my GS:eek:

Halfords 5w 40 fully synthetic is half the price same spec, but I shall stick with the Castrol until the warranty runs out.

I am dumbfounded. Here is the manual, and it states 4,2 L. of oil. Not 4,50 or 4,75 L. No, 4,2 Liters. Period. So, how can a responsible BVMW shop overfill a bike? I mean, it will take 4 1 L. bottles, or 1 4 L. bottle, plus 250 ml, and that's it. Is it because of this 250 ml? They can't measure it or what?

I must say that I have yet to see the top line of the oil in my sighting glass after almost 8,000 kms. Am I overfilled? Next service, at 10,000 kms, I will ask they put ONLY 4 liters. Then, I will check the sighting glass myself, following the strictest rules, and if any oil is missing (which I doubt) I will add it myself. There.

Yes and the manual says do not overfill or you may cause damage :blast.
Yet the trained mechanics fail to fill correctly is it they just cant be bothered to be precise, well its not there bike is it. :nenau

Minor niggle I know but you trust your bike to them, and expect the jobs to be carried out by the book, so if the oil level is wrong what is the rest of the adjustments like? (rear drive oil?)

Terry

Yeah but the overfilling of the oil seems to be happening at every dealer so why the feck up !

Do you ride a WC? From my manual (WC): «Quantité de remplissage d'huile moteur Env. 4,2 l, avec remplacement du filtre.»

My handbook says 4.2 litres with filter change. Never seen mine on the max line, although it hasn't dropped any more in 670 miles.

What is the recommended oil capacity for the previous gs hex head ? Maybe that is more than 4litres and the bmw mechanics are assuming the WC is the same... :blagblah

It's 3900 miles since 1st service and I've just removed 275cc of engine oil the level is now just below the top edge of the level circle after five minutes:nenau

Off to the IoM for the weekend so will see if its any different. Looking back to 1st service I rang the dealer as the gear change was good before and worse after I quizzed them on brand/type of oil used and they confirmed liquid gold was used. But until now I had not checked the level diligently.
