Clacks , Crunches, or cant get Neutral

My handbook edition 2 quotes 4.0L with filter.

Just checked my book, and it says 4.0L:thumb I'll have a look at my invoice from the first service to see how much they put in mine. I've not had to add a drop since then.:beerjug:

The mechanics are used to filling T.C. GSs and they always put some extra in as it drops pretty quickly! :aidan

Just checked the invoice, and they put 3.5L in mine at the first service, and it's been sat at the top ring (max) in the sight glass ever since.:rob

This is level at cold

With the bike at cold on main stand it is just below 3/4 and a tad more than 2/3rds filling the glass. I have a bit of a clonk going in to first part apart from that it is slightly agricultural going up the box but not bad at all. Going down is fine and I never have anymore difficulty in finding neutral than any other bike I have ever been on.

Not had a drop since then, gosh gone TT.

Chatting to the mechanic this morning, they have been told 4.2L by BMUK. However must be checked hot as the oil will expand thus going further up the sight glass.

struck oil

Just had 6000 mile service the other day and now removed the excess oil from engine approx 500 ml. When questioned dealer, reply was Bmw instructed them to add a measured quantity. Gear changing marginally better but engine still on max oil level.

I hadn't checked my invoice for the 600 m. service, and sure enough they charged me... 5 L. of oil! So, not only they may have put too much, but they also charged me for 3/4 they did not give me back. And who knows if they didn't use them for three other customers, charging them 1 L. each time?

Checked with my dealer. They were surprised thay had charged me 5 L. of oil. They immediately credited me 1 L. for my next oil change. Took the opportunity to have some oil removed from my engine.

I had my 1st service today after dropping my bike off last night, the dealer told me the modified clutch rod won't be in stock in Germany until the end of September and we won't see any until October. At this rate I won't get my bike done until the Spring as I don't use my bike once any salt is on the road! Was hoping it would be done before our holiday but that won't happen. Note to self wear your 'ear plugs' it doesn't sound as bad then!

Just hope this will cure the problem or at least make it acceptable?

Picked my new bike up yesterday and it looks as if the word has got around. With the engine cold after an overnight stand the oil level is 3mm below the top of the red circle. Gearbox and clutch are fine

You need to check the oil level once its been run up to temp, than let it sand for a couple of mins.

Since i removed 350ml mines much i proved, i think there's still too much in there but its snick snick rather than clunk clunk . Mine will be due its 6k service nxt week as I'm off to the alps so ill ask them to put the correct amount in this time.

looks to full

My oil level is in the upper half of the red circle in the sight glass, when the engine is warm. When cold it is just below the red circle.

No problems :thumb2

Mines in for its 6k service on Monday. What is the correct amount, as I'll also be confirming with my dealer?

On earlier Boxers, most people reckoned that the oil should be filled to the red dot and if you went above it, then the extra would be 'lost' during normal use and end up in the bottom of the air filter case

Not sure if this is same on WC

Would slowing down the tickover help with crunch into first:nenau

Can idle speed be adjusted without dealer intervention?

Dunno but the WC doesn't seem to consume any oil at all so it would take an awful long time for the 'extra' to be 'lost' in normal use - I didn't have to add a drop up to the 6,000 mile service and haven't added any since and now done over 8,000 miles - oil is still right at the top of the window.

My manual is dated 02/2013 3rd edition. Quotes 4.2l with oil filter change.
Where should the oil level be then when cold?
The centre of the red circle? Or below it?
