Clacks , Crunches, or cant get Neutral

So, I'n English, they've fitted a quickshifter?

Andres

They have apparently done away with the 'conventional' clutch arrangement completely, a quasi semi-automatic, perhaps?

We overheard some of the specs of the new 2014 RT as we walked past the stand; it features hillstart control, a shift assist which enables the rider to upshift and downshift without using the clutch.......

Given the troubles encountered by some riders in the Alps, it's clear that BMW have listened to customer feedback and are starting to build the motorcycle everyone wants. No doubt a focus group was involved.

What sort of people want all these 'rider aids'? Do they really have that much trouble riding a motorcycle? they will be asking for 4 wheels soon because they have trouble balancing and leaning around corners is dangerous - and those who keep whining about getting a bit damp when it rains will be asking for a fairing that covers their heads and sides as well - WHAT A BUNCH OF GIRLS! :D

i have eschewed ESA, TPS, traction control and other pointless gimmicks on my GSAs, but i would be very interested in an automatic gearbox :)

i know it's bit of a long shot for the wish list, as bmw seem barely capable of producing a manual box these days :augie

Back to carrying cut down allen keys to replace the failed drive in the torque converter, just like the old Guzzi converts.

How about paddle shift, re introduce the lefthand / righthand indicator switches for up and down changes.

i've been told it's very bad to replace the oil pump drive key things with cut down allen keys, but i've never worked out why that might be? oh, and i wouldn't want to change one at the side of the road, as they are a right bastard to get at.

the crosstourer has a really nice auto box by all accounts. unfortunate then that it's attached to a honda.

Having eschewed (great word) automatic cars for years but now owning one, with a great 8-speed box, engine cut-out at complete halt, hill start provision etc. etc. I am tending to agree with you.

I rode an automatic VFR on loan but couldn't get on with it. But, that was an early early version; for sure they will get better and better, whilst the electric bikes of the (not so distant) future won't have a gearbox - as we think of them - at all.

Probably because the allen key is harder than the original drive key, and it will cause damage to the oil pump rather than failing itself.

All these "rider aids" are there because the marketing demographic for the current/potential "toilet" owner requires their fitment. Bikers on the other hand don't.

That's why I bought the basic model, no traction control, no modes, no active suspension - just ABS but I would have preferred it without that too!

fuck this thread needs consigning to the depths :D:D:D

I agree - but what we really need is a whinger detector so that their posts can be dumped before they get posted!

I had a yam FJR with a semi auto box. 2007 model. On the move it was great but slow speed manoeuvres where tricky, it was all or nothing. Especially full lock. So got rid.

If this was ironed out I would consider a auto mile muncher.
