There is a classic bike auction coming up on the 26th of March.

As usual, do not under any circumstances click on the link if you are as weak willed as I am.

Either the market for classic bikes is more depressed than I thought or the estimates are set deliberately low to entice buyers.
What is extremely rare is an early ‘seventies CR Husqvarna MX that wasn’t owned by Steve McQueen!

That black&gold is lovely. Estimate seems about right for a genuine well cared for example (tho I think the gold painted calibres are a mistake). In the current classic slump the prices for Hailwood Reps have dropped way more than 900ss, rightly so IMHO (always preferred the stripped down basic look of the ss) Even so I reckon the estimate on the one in the auction is too low - If circumstances were otherwise (time, money, space) I would be sorely tempted. What a gorgeous looking thing. And the right year too. Maybe it’s just as well I’m out of the country…

Quote from the description of the Ducati Superlight: “This rare and collectible 900SL is a Mk5 model, the last of the Superlight range incorporating all the upgrades developed over the preceding years”…
What guff. As ane fule no the first one, the so called Mk1 is the one to have with the series being diluted every year thereafter. But at least it’s better than the Mk2 which was little more than a standard 900ss with a single seat. Makes me question the descriptions of the bikes I know nowt about - which is most of them.

Looks like prices are really softening
It will be fascinating to see what prices are actually achieved. It's quite a hard market to read at the moment.

Given that to a great extent we tend to lust after the bikes we fancied in our youth, I do wonder who's still inclined to pay good money for those old flat tankers.

That lovely MHR sold for a snip over £10k, inc premium. That's bordering on daylight robbery, gotta feel for the seller. Stone cold bargain for the buyer.
