Classic bike auction - lead us not into temptation

There are what seem on the face of it to be some reasonable prices in the sold list. Given the garage space I could have been tempted by the Laverda Mirage at that money. Whether the riding experience would live up to expectations is another matter - probably a case of rose tinted spectacles.

There has certainly been a market 'correction' if this lot are anything to go by.

The DBD34 Goldie at £8,510 - My mate sold one 10 years ago for a straight £13K.

I can't help thinking that I'm missing something?? - :nenau

I sold one to a dealer a couple of years back for £12500

Do not forget the buyer's fee of 15%.
Plus VAT.
I make that an extra 18 per cent, on top of the selling price.
Thought vat was around 20% so would that be an extra 35%

According to the web site, the sold prices given include the buyers premium. Not sure if that is then + VAT though.

I sold mine for £115.

That was many, many years ago and it was the market price at the time.

I recognise the Dale Winfield collection bikes as they were showcased in the cafe at Winfields of Accrington ( big outdoor store). Eddie Kidds bike, lots of signed Foggies bikes ( Winfield sponsored him as a yoof) . These bikes represent a small part of the collection, the bulk were auctioned by Matthewsons about 6-8 years ago.

I dont think classic bikes are an investment anymore. The market for them is literally dying off. Can you imagine gen z buying old motorbikes?
