Has anyone found an efficient way to clean a bike that's been treated with ACF50 Anticorrosion Treatment?

I'm sure it does a good job but it's a nightmare! Although it doesn't feel tacky to the touch everything sticks to it! It's like trying to clean dirt off a dried film of vaseline.

Something tells me I'm going to regret mentioning vaseline!:ymca

i use hein gerike pink cleaning gel. acf50 comes straight off after brushing with the cleaner.

I put on ACF50 before the winter and took it off about a month ago.

I gave it a liberal spraying of SDoc 100 and left it for 30 mins. I then washed it off with a low power jet wash, and then used a car shampoo to wash the general dirt off and finished with a some Mer polish.

SDoc 100 basically broke down the ACF50 for me.

Result after commuting and riding it through the winter was no rust and no signs of corrosion in the usual places. Took about 2 hours to do all of the above, but the bike was gleaming afterwards.

What is this miraculous ACF 50 stuff then :nenau

And how do you use it? Just wack it on the bike in November and then wash it off in April?

Does the bike need washing in between? Do you need to add more ACF50 periodically?

I am very interested :thumb

ACF-50 is just posh WD-40, which is just thin oil in a spray can.

Just use a decent bike cleaner to get it off - I use Castrol GreenTech from Halfords(and other places). DiRE mag did a test of bike cleaners and found that some of them are too agressive at cleaning (for their liking at least). I think Hein Gericke's cheap bike cleaner got 'Best Buy'

FWIW, The BMW Offroad school (who know something about cleaning dirty bikes) first pressure wash off the dirt, then spray on GreenTech then pressure wash that off then spray everything except the brakes in WD-40.

Thats jolly good !

You keep using WD and folk like me will continue rubbing our hands with glee..
perhaps you are unaware that the stuff ABSORBS water after a while, and ROTS neoprene !

Somehow I suspect you will not find too much WD 40 in aircraft hangers.. you will however find gallons of ACF-50 ! :)
Generally Aircraft applications tend to be a damned good indicator for future motorcycle products..
We ( motorcyclists ) caught on to ACF fairly early fortunately.

For those who do not know it is made by the same company that produes the lear jet range.. Originally exclusively for use on their own planes it was only after some time they decided to market it.. And by the cringe there are a LOT of folk out there who are glad they did :)

Yea, but I don't own a Lear Jet.......

We certainly used it on the aircraft in my old job and it did a good job of dealing with salt water corrosion.

My old 1150GS got an application of ACF-50 every winter and it's the first thing I did to my new Varadero :thumb2

This winter is the first time I've used ACF-50, I'll never, ever.... be without it again :D I'm well impressed:thumb2

Edit: getting carried away :o.... Gunk to clean off

98 Miles a day on my 06 1200GSA - 41,100 miles on the clock. Last cleaned in December. Sorry I did clean around the oil filter to change it. So set about it today. Pulled out some Pheasant bits from underneath and flicked a hose at it. Had forgotten those wheels had black rims.

Good as new - bollucks to spending money on protective crap that make no difference. Get a good layer of mud on it before they salt and leave it on!

Might keep it clean now the salts gone.

Numptys Polish and Riders Ride.......:monkeypiz

Thanks Guys.

That was a lot of quick responses! I wasn't expecting all that!

I was hoping to find a way of cleaning it easily without taking off the ACF-50 but I guess that won't be happening. Could be Gunk time soon.

To all those sceptics out there, ACF-50 is without doubt damn good stuff. It's nothing like Dubs40. One coat of ACF will last a year where dubs has to be reapplied every few days to be effective. That makes it pretty cost effective methinks. It does however make it a right pain in the arse to clean the bike if you're that way inclined!

Top tip if you decide to use ACF. Warm the Aerosol can up in a bucket of warm water first. It'll spray much better! Oh yeah, and don't get it on the brakes! It doesn't burn off in a few miles like WD-40 does.

i had a look at this af50 stuff but something better i use on my car its called poorboys wheel sealant - its a pot of wax u put on leave for 20 mins then buff off - i use it all the time on my wheels and the dirt comes straight off - lasts about 10 close jet washes i guess
