CLEANING ALUMINIUM LUGGAGE

My topbox on the GSA was slightly used when i got it, the surface looks like damp spores on plaster if you understand that.

whats best stuff to use to clean these up, i was thinking of tcut and then a nice wax polish to finish off ??

any ideas

Fine steel wire wool. Use it on one panel at a time, keep the strokes in the same direction to get it all even and then a quick buff with brasso. Works a treat.

Try the underside first if you want to prove it.

I use Solvol Autosol rubbing it in line with the lines in the metal(that is when i'm not trying to get stickers off my panniers with Nitromors) then spray the panniers with good old ACF50 in the winter and GT85 in the summer for that 'never been used' look

.......................I got a pair of boots I bought off the site. Can anyone suggest a way of cleaning them up to get the best shine Could I use a spit,polish, dubbin combo

Clean once, along the lines of suggested above - then coat to prevent future oxidation.

Keep removing the oxide layer - you'll have no Aluminium left.

Well in theory, he's actually quite correct. It's the layer of aluminium oxide on the surface of aluminium that prevents it from further oxidation. That's what anodising is all about.

However, I suspect that in practice you could polish the bloody things from now until Doomsday and you'd still have most of them left.
