After 6 months of ownership the luggage is starting to look much older than the rest of the bike. It's peppered with blemishes that are hard to clean off, what do others use to clean them ?

Good luck they are truly shocking, mine are the same on my 2016. I wish I kept the ones that were on my 2014 because they did not go like these have.

They must be using cheaper quality aluminium now. I've tried alsorts but think maybe the only way is to cover them.

I will be interested to see what others use as I've even tried using a power mop and polishing compound.

They have been like that for years. Have a search (here and Hexhead) and you will see posts all over the place about it along with some solutions that people have come up with.

Have them wrapped - it's the salt that kills them.

Aluminium corrodes - and "low quality" aluminium (unless alloyed with zinc or similar) - will not corrode any faster than "high quality" aluminium

If you laquer them from new - and stay on top of marks/scratches - you may stand a chance, or wrap them as suggested above

been an ongoing problem

touratech who make them have admitted to using a thinner / lower grade aluminium to the last ones for the GS TC and earlier models, BMW know about this and some have been replaced due to this, mine however did not get replaced and the two panniers have white dots all over them and I never even used them, bike got delivered in a van, the boxes taken off and into the wardrobe, gone off in two days

the only thing apart from above is to polish them with autosolve and get them as good as possible then coat them in acf 50 / gt85 but not wd40 as it just runs off and doesn't last as long

Clean them with a bowl of water and fairy liquid use a green plastic type pan scrub thing but only go in one direction not circles. Then clean water rinse and spay them over with gt85 or wd40. Good as new!
