Hi,

As the sun is out and also as I need to check all the stuff works before my trips away, I thought I'd plug in the old satnav and autocom headset to check it all works well.

Glad I did as where I've been using the bike through winter, the contacts on the Garmin mount were slightly corroded and also the pins in the autocom helmet connector (headset).

I just need to clean them but does anyone know if there is a spray I can use that cleans off surface crap on the connectors but doesn't affect the plastics?

cheers

Just as an update .....

I found some posts on here about contacting Garmin support directly and they have in the past offered to replace the mount free of charge. I gave them a shout but all they did was say - google part number 010-10859-00 and buy a new mount !!!

I did that and its coming in about £40 !! ouch. To be fair it is out of warranty but looks like Garmin support is being affected by the recession as well and if its out of warranty then your on your own.

So next step is still to clean the contacts on the garmin mount and autocom headset DIN plug connector. Just want to use the right stuff and not being an electrical type I want to be sure I don't make it worse.

If your zumo is hard wired to the battery, it would be a good idea to change it to a switched feed too, as being permanently connected is a factor is causing the cradle contacts to oxidize.

Cheers for all the top tips. Mine is hardwired in and I had no idea this could cause this to happen.

I'm popping down Maplins at the weekend to get me some contact cleaner which is safe on rubber  and I'll squirt that in there and srcub with the wife's toothbrush.

I reckon that should sort it out. I'll look at putting a fuse inline as well.

cheers guys
