My Rallye Pro 2 (grey and black) pants are in desperate need of a wash thanks to too many muddy trails. Never washed them before. Any suggestions - Nikwax Techwash then the TX Direct wash-in to re-proof? I'm only washing the outer layer, not the inner layers, so do I even need to bother reproofing - isn't the waterproofing provided by the removeable Gortex inner?

Remove the armour, bung 'em in the washing machine. A couple of bio tabs at 30C and it all comes out looking like new. You can use the Nikwax wash in stuff but not with detergent and you've answered your own question - it's the goretex liners that provide the waterproofing.

I've used both the products you mention on an old Rallye2 jacket - not sure it ever made any difference but am sure it can't harm anything.

Don't use detergent with Goretex. It stops it working properly.

I do as you originally suggested on my Goretex gear (not BMW Rallye) i.e. Tech Wash followed by TX Direct wash in.

Likewise for Mrs Bear's Belice which is similar to the Rallye 2 with waterproof inner liners and my Belstaff which has the liners built in. I wouldn't let detergent anywhere near something I wanted to stay waterproof.

+1 - BUNG EM IN THE WASHER WITH SOME PERSIL ! liners do the work so you don't have to.

Every little helps..... Motorrad clothing ::D:D

After a muddy offroad course I put my jacket in the washing machine on a cool wash and it cleaned up perfectly. I unzipped the sleeves and bum bag and threw them all in together. I was slightly worried about the collar but everything came out like new.

I haven't tried washing the trousers yet as I am concerned the leather on these might not fare so well.

Washed mine many times. Take out the armour, wash in cold cycle with detergent, come up good. Big benefit of separate goretex parts, no bollox with nikwax or other useless shite.
