Gave the bike a good clean at the weekend and my Titanium Akrapovic is covered in tar spots. I read up on Akrapovics web site and they suggest cleaning the can with WD-40 but this would not remove the tar spots.

Does anyone know of any reason NOT to clean the can with T Cut to remove the tar, then wipe over with WD-40 :nenau

why would you use an abrasive cleaner on your akra when a solvent like tar spot remover:blast will do it very easily?
btw tar spot remover available in halfrauds:thumb

T-Cut is abrasive. Use parrafin or petrol.

...or if your lass is away, nail varnish remover.

Have you tried WD40 ? - I use it on mine and have removed tar spots with it. Really don't think you need anything else.

I use WD40 to remove tar spots from my titanium scorpion end can, it works like a charm. Spray on, leave a few minutes to do its thing (ie dissolve the tar), then wipe off.

I also polished the can last year with some wadding polish and it came up nice and clean, although titanium soon forms a protective oxide layer.

How about tar spot remover :nenau

I haven,t used T Cut, just wondered :augie

Looks like WD-40 it is then, I only tried a little, WD, on an unseen part of the can but was trying not to scatch the Titanium

Ill give it another go and use a little patience, its a virtue few of us possess :D

Thanks Guys :beerjug:

Get some Autoglym tar remover, spray on and leave for a couple of minutes. Get a soft cloth and wipe off. No scratches.

I think I've finally got this sussed after owning titanium pipes on a number of bikes. First clean it gently with soapy water and a soft cloth or clean sponge. Let it dry. Then apply a generous amount of WD40 and buff with a soft cloth - be carful on any tar spots as said above let it soak in a bit first.

My akro is over a year old and still looks like new

My old Unobtainium Akra, had an adhesive logo that eventually peeled of, leaving a horrible sticky residue.

I tried all sorts of gentle methods to clean it. But eventually reverted to using wirewool and WD40 to clean it off, and it worked a treat. The wirewool didn't even leave a scratch.

I have a titanium cycle frame and fine wirewool brings it up a treat. Gently does it of course.
