I know its fasionable to store everything in the Cloud these days. My OneDrive storage is now full and all my files and folders I save have got a red x next to them
To be fair, I didn't realise everything was going to the cloud, as I always back up on 2 removable hard drives.
How can I remove files from the OneDrive cloud? I don't want to take out another subscription to pay for extra storage.
I have hunted online but so far been unsuccessful in trying to access these files?

If I delete files from my PC which have also been stored in the cloud, do they automatically become deleted in the cloud? I ask this as I back up onto removable drives, and keep my PC relatively uncluttered, so I was surprised when my cloud storage was full.

Yes - any files that are in your OneDrive on you PC will be deleted from both places. They go to the recycle bin and I seem to remember that OneDrive keeps them for about three months and then permanently deletes them. You can also manually empty the recycle bin if you want to force it in order to free up some space.

It's possible that you have the folder backup option active from your description.

Why do they offer “free” storage for your files?

Why does anyone use it?

Seems too good to be true to me, but I’m a cynical git.

Give you enough storage space so it becomes indispensable and so, so convenient.

Then monetarise it so you're stuck on paying them for the rest of your life.

Not a fan, as you might have guessed so I turn it off whenever I get a new device.

Wholly agree. If it’s free, you are the product.

It's fairly standard in IT.

Apple do it with iCloud and others will use what is knows as the Freemuim model.

Give enough away for free that it's usable for a while until you hit a point where you want/need more and then upgrade to the premium paid version. Things like SketchUp do this but so do many, many others.
