This is my first boxer so forgive me if 'they all do that' applies. I have noticed a 'clicking' sound coming from the drive train of my 6000 mile 04 GS ADV. I can feel it through the foot pegs and hear it at low speeds particularly in traffic with the clutch out. Bike is still under BMW warranty so not too concerned but need to know if this is normal.

I have thought of the best way to describe it. When you were a kid you used to attach a peg or some cardboard to your push bike so that it would hit the spokes of your wheels and make a clicking sound. Its like that but not quite as loud.

Bomb on board..................(clicking from timing device)

How long until total devastation???

I have thought of the best way to describe it[/B]

Could you continue working on your description, please? Does it come from the engine (even when wheels are stopped)? Does it come from the wheels (same pitch in any gear)? Is it different when the engine warms up? Do you hear it at idle? Does it go away when you hold the clutch or apply the breaks?
I am sure that by the time you become precise enough, you will be able to answer your own question. Then the experts in this board will advise you on what to tell your mechanic. Keep working on it!. (':D')

Does it come from the engine (even when wheels are stopped)? No it does not come from the engine and it stops when the wheels stop turning.

Does it come from the wheels (same pitch in any gear)?
No I dont think it does come from the wheels themselves.

Is it different when the engine warms up?
Yes I think it is.

Do you hear it at idle? No not at idle.

Does it go away when you hold the clutch or apply the breaks? It goes when the clutch lever is pulled in, I dont think it goes when the brakes are applied.

C'mon - take the carboard bit out.

its not big and its not clever

PS - its probbly the drive shaft uj

OK. That's much better.

But I still don't know what it is.:P Actually, I am kidding a bit. I think that you are making good progress and that it is probably a rear end problem. Don't worry, your dealer will take care of that for you. Let us know what happens!

Where you really notice it is when you let the clutch out at 10 or 20mph in 1st or 2nd gear. Its a noise like a ratchet ??
