Hope somone can shed some light on this,i have had a horrible, quite loud clicking noise from the rear end on my Dakar since i brought it last November, read on here that it was possibly the cush drive rubbers,so off to me local BMW dealers and ordered a set,all fitted and still clicking!!! I dont know whether its my chain causing it,ive it tensioned as per the little diagram on the swing arm but i can pull it about half way off the rear sprocket!!! Any ideas, suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

check sprockets, i had mates enduro bike do this when moving off and the chain and sprockets were fooked

My girlfriend, who is the absolute font of no mechanical knowledge, suggests your chain's either fooked or catching on something...my 3 legged dog agrees:thumb

Also.........the front sprocket is very prone to wear on these bikes.

Flik,

a useful site:

As Tim says, front sprocket wears twice as fast as rear sprocket (and often ignored as tucked behind cover).
You presumably checked the rear sprocket carrier bearing (seperate to wheel bearings) when you replaced the cush drive?
New chain and sprockets should cure the problem.

My girlfriend, who ....

You've inadvertently used the singular there Tim. I'm sure a Super Mod will be along shortly to correct!

PS I can't help with sprockets (which the bike certainly needs) but I offer a decent range of 520 chains for the discerning 650 rider here

I checked ou the link and re-adjusted me chain and the clickin is vertually gone.I will replace the chain and sprockets, but i can get a good deal through being in the trade.

If the chain was jumping when it was slack, it probably means that you've got it pretty tight.

Don't delay in changing the chain and sprockets!
